Riot Games have brought their League of Legends spinoff to mobile, and it’s an absolute cracker.

The core of the game is in drafting a team of champions together to put through their paces in battle versus other players, but an evolving event system and cool comeback mechanics will keep everyone on their toes. It’s great to look at, too.

Combine the hidden objects and work through elaborate puzzles in this lush fantasy story, as you venture into past lives to uncover a centuries-old conspiracy through richly detailed handpainted scenes.

A smart hint system makes sure things aren’t too easy while also guaranteeing that you’ll never get stuck.

You’re given a clue and a set of consonants – you just need to figure out where the vowels go. The letters all drop in with a super-satisfying “ping” and the puzzles are brilliantly animated. 

It’s the sort of game you can play for five seconds, five minutes or five hours.

Tower-defence games normally have you chucking fortifications all over the place. Here though, you’re putting all your defensive eggs in one big towering basket as you build from a tiny archery platform to a giant wheeled skyscraper full of knights, crossbowmen and turrets.

With every wave of invaders defeated, your tower gets higher and your city more prosperous – winning never felt so good.

This indie gem’s been picking up acclaim for its brilliant writing, and rightly so. A short story centred around a family camping trip, its gentle exploration of life and relationships will stay with you long after you finish playing.

It’s a real treat, and an experience to savour.
