Right now, your child may have nouns, core words ("more", "help", "all done"), sentence frames ("I want ..."), and even some gestalts. That's good but not enough. In the short term, it makes sense to emphasize functional communication. But in the long term, growth is only possible if your child learns how joining words leads to endless possibilities.
