Description
Shopping online is changing.
The EBS CardManager app will give you added security when shopping online. The app allows you to securely authenticate your purchases when using your EBS debit card to shop online.
From February 2021 onwards, when you shop online with your EBS debit card we will apply an extra layer of security and you will need to authenticate the transaction using the EBS CardManager app.
This extra security layer is where we apply what is known as Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). This helps fight fraudsters and further protect online transactions.
Here is what you need to do:
1. Download this EBS CardManager app.
2. Open the EBS CardManager app. You will be prompted on screen to enter your date of birth and your mobile number.
3. We will then ask you to authenticate your mobile phone by ringing our customer care number displayed on screen and providing a code word sent to your phone. A member of our customer care team will ask you to read this code word out, and this will authenticate your phone. This will link your phone and the app to your EBS debit card.
Once you have set this up your SCA, you won’t have to do it again and you can continue to shop online securely using the app to authenticate your purchases.

What’s EBS doing?
In the beginning I had to download an app just to authorise online access to my account (very useless app as more often than not it does not work) now they want me to download another app to authorise online purchases with my card. They could not enhance the previous app to do both jobs? Never heard of optimising services? Anyway, fine, I guess they don’t care about wasting memory space on my phone and I download the second app but I cannot even use the app because I’m supposed to call a number to authenticate my access but the number they provided is not existent and of course the customer service is available only Monday to Friday until 5pm. So I cannot use my card to purchase something that is on offer only today! Maybe whatever genius takes these decisions in EBS, should take a course on optimisation and check that things actually works before making them mandatory for customers creating huge disservice. Total nuisance (not to say total f@&# up!).
Doesn’t work!
I have never written a review before because I had never thought it work my time but this app is absolutely atrocious it simply does not work. Everyone I try to make a payment it says “open and confirm the push notification when sent to your mobile device to complete your purchase”.
I have not once received this said “push notification”. I’ve tried everything I can but nothing works and I’m stuck with zero capability of competing an online purchase. It is absolutely awful. They need to fix this ASAP. Clearly whoever made this didn’t properly test it and has left its customers complete screwed. Worst app I have ever used.
How to annoy customers
Tried several times to purchase goods online until I realised I had to download another EBS app. So there is the EBS Authenticator app and this card manager app. Couldn’t install on iPhone as iOS needs updating. So used ipad. Then had to contact EBS to activate it. Then for the third time I purchased goods, but i was on the phone to do this to make sure I didn’t get charged twice. Then i go to install the app on other devices and each time you have to contact EBS and go through the security checks again. comeback KBC don’t leave ireland!
