From its humble origin as a fun way to send self-erasing photo messages, Snapchat has grown into one of our favorite social media apps. And not just for the hilarious face filters and cool geographical photo tags. It’s become one of the best ways to share memories, maintain friendships, and stay up to date on news and views from our go-to websites.
Snapchat
Snapchat is amazing for too many reasons to count u can send snaps to people and when they send one back it creates a snap streak that u can continue by snapping each other every day. U can also play games and compete with anyone who is playing the same game! There is a game where u can check peoples birthday so u know when to wish them happy birthday! U can also video call or audio call with one person or a group. U can send entertaining stuff on ur story and watch/create videos on spotlight! And in ur profile u can create ur own bitmoji avatar and check ur snap score which u get from how many snaps u sent and received. I gave Snapchat 5 stars because there is no app as great as Snapchat!
Once great messaging app, now mind numbing and draining
Snapchat began as a messaging app. Then it introduced stories, turning it more into a form of social media. This eventually evolved into the discover section. Now I understand Snapchat needs to make money and advertising is one of the best ways to do this, so I understand having a few ads pop up while i tap through my friends’ stories. But I would love if I could disable the Discover section in the app. It is usually filled with mindless content, and always tries to show you items from a story that are most likely to get you to click into it. This often leads to you reading a news story which is weeks or months ago and no longer relevant, or tapping through a story which is really of no interest to you. I have uninstalled facebook and instagram for this reason, I don’t use twitter or threads, and I would love to uninstall snapchat purely because of the Discover section, but unfortunately that’s how most people i know communicate. I love Snapchat for many reasons, and would absolutely give it a 5 star otherwise, but the Discover section just ruins the app completely for me, turning it from a fun and simple messaging app into a mind numbing experience which tries it’s best to keep you from exiting the app.
