I’ve been using this app for years and they have made it needlessly complicated and fiddly. You used to be able to click on the book you were listening to and have it pop up and play the book. Now it goes into a small bar at the bottom. It does allow navigation in the book but if you want to know anything about the book you have to click on the small bar. It’s just a needless extra step. Then, you used to be able to tap on the image of the book you were listening to while in play mode and it would switch between chapter and seconds skip mode. So you could easily navigate the book in what ever way you wanted. Now you have to choose between the two options. I chose seconds which I use more. But the number of times I’ve had to click on a separate space in order to get to the chapter menu is very frustrating. Especially because I’m never sure what chapter I’m on and what chapter I want to go to. The old version meant you were navigating from a set and obvious playing point. Before you had I believe two or three simple options on top. Books in your library books you’ve downloaded and maybe explore but that could be wrong. Now you have a TON of unnecessary options. They’ve introduced a categories search option which would be cool if you had control over what category or genre your book was labeled. I have a ton of one type of genre but in the app it registers them as multiple genres which doesn’t make sense. The only plus side if that you can create your own folders. I could sort of see this being useful but in my case would take forever because I have so many books and wouldn’t be helpful unless you sorted all the books you have. I hope audible simplifies and restores the most useful old features in exchange for the mess they’ve made with this new version
Great app but expensive

The app is wonderful but the subscription and pricing system is awful. You basically pay for every single book just like you would in a bookstore, rather than having a streaming subscription like in a music streaming app. I think they highly misunderstand book listeners. I listen to a new book every week - which would cost me 60 usd per month on their app. Some of their competitors offer an unlimited subscription service which allows me to listen to all the books I want, in any language, for just 15 use per month.
Finally an iPhone App worthy of the service

It took you decade, but you finally brought the app to the level worthy of the service. It could be a bit less sluggish and sync a little faster, but all in all a solid app that doesn’t break every update.I really wish I could say the same for the Watch app. It seems be going through the same phases as the iPhone app did. It started rather nice. Allowing syncing books from the phone. But has since slowly degraded to an unusable mess that does nothing than occupy otherwise useful bits on my Watch. I understand the direction of making the Watch app more standalone. It’s admirable, and I wish this will be the direction most Watch apps will eventually take. But why do we have to endure months of an unusable app in production until you figure this product out? Mostly since you already had something good enough.Please just revert it to what it was before the standalone version, and restart the effort to figure it out without depriving us of the service. Or at least bring back features that allow managing the Watch library from the phone.
