Deze oefening is een auditieve training ontworpen met als doel geleidelijk aan het vermogen van de gebruiker te verbeteren om geluiden die tegelijkertijd beide oren bereiken te horen en te onderscheiden. Deze vaardigheid vereist goed functionerende auditieve banen naar de auditieve cortex en een goede verbinding via het corpus collosum naar de andere hersenhelft. Het niveau van deze vaardigheid zegt iets over de status van de ontwikkeling van het auditieve systeem. Letsel of onderontwikkeling van deze auditieve banen kunnen een rol spelen in a) het vermogen om de aandacht goed te richten in lastige luisteromstandigheden, b) moeilijkheden bij het lezen, c) moeite om gesproken instructies te kunnen volgen, d) moeite om visuele en auditieve informatie te combineren. Verbetering van het functioneren van deze auditieve banen is cruciaal voordat men overgaat tot het trainen van hogere functies.
