iShala is an Indian music mobile app that provides flawless accompaniment for classical music practice, be it vocal, instrumental or rhythmic. It comes in 2 Editions: Standard and Pro (previously known as Premium).
It features:
• 6 Tanpuras (10 on Pro Edition)
• 2 Tablas (3 on Pro Edition)
• a Swarmandal
• a Vibraphone (Pro Edition only)
• a Harmonium
• 3 Manjeeras (6 on Pro Edition)
all fully customisable in practice sessions that can then be loaded on demand. It effectively replaces a tabla machine, a lehra player and an electronic tanpura. It is therefore an ideal tool for anyone practicing Indian classical music, or just wishing to jam along virtual Indian musicians on any other musical style.
iShala includes over 60 rhythmic cycles, melodies in more than 110 ragas and 7 different tempos. You can also create your own ragas and fine-tune each of their notes at micro-tones (or shrutis) level. Possible combinations are thus nothing short of endless!
iShala initially comes in Standard Edition, but you can upgrade it to Pro Edition through an In-App purchase option. These are one-time payments; whatever the edition you choose, you can use the app forever.
Standard Edition has all the features you need for your riyaaz, and more. But Pro Edition adds some really exciting functionality like:
• pitch correction: iShala detects the note you are currently singing, along with a coloured meter highlighting whether you are right on pitch or not. This is a precious tool to improve your accuracy.
• additional instruments: 4 tanpuras, a low pitch tabla, a vibraphone and 3 manjeeras
• manual playing of all instruments: tabla, harmonium, tanpura, swarmandal, vibraphone and manjeera
• NEW: plug a MIDI keyboard (USB/Bluetooth) and play any of these instruments through it!
• record your own loops
• record your practice session: adjust mic/music level, then press REC, sing, press STOP and the audio recording file will be generated for you to listen and share
• pull items from the Cloud: download rhythmic and/or melodic cycles posted from SwarShala users directly on your device

I absolutely love this app!!!! It’s easy to use, nice neat interface and authentic pure sounds of Indian instruments. I use this during my singing sessions and even when am working, tanpura and swarmandal keeps playing in the background. 1. Bol of taals are not what my guru taught so more options should be added which are common bol for a taal. Example : teental bols - Dha dhin dhin dha, dha dhin dhin dha, na tin tin ta, tete dhin dhin dha.2. No option to write the notes for alankar etc in harmonium other than recording option. There should be an option to create alankar or any melody including the taal/beats selecting specific notes (dragging the notes or writing) without recording which then can be listened in harmonium voice along with any taal and also saved for future. I thought this feature was there in Pro version and that’s why I bought that but disappointed now.3. There should be a user guide also included in the app. For example : explanation for spacing option in tanpura and other features.4. I don’t see play option for already recorded sounds. Also no edit option for recorded to match with beats. There should be an option to play your own recordings in the main menu along with other taals/sargam etc with bols/notes so that I can see how it’s playing.I paid for pro version but not happy as nothing much compared to standard version.I hope your team will include these features and take feedback from customers to improve the app. Thanks

On the screenshots of the app, you can see it’s Pro, that’s what I expected after purchasing, but turns out it’s the Standard version with very less features, they want you to pay almost the same amount again to get all the features, if you’re not selling the Pro version on the app store, why put the false screenshot with Pro on it when it’s actually the Standard version with very less features1. The sessions feature doesn’t save the instruments you want to play, it plays everything all at once2. The sound quality is not good, improper sampled instruments that result in sound that isn’t clean as you would hope3. The manual harmonium option and all other instruments are locked behind the pro versionThis has honestly been a very bad experience, 2 minutes into using the app and I knew I’ve wasted my money, this isn’t what the company promised on the app store, why not directly sell the Pro version if you’re advertising it on the screenshots, FALSE ADVERTISING!DO NOT BUYiTablaPro is way better than this
Very Annoying App – Audio Stops When Using Other Apps

There is a serious problem with this app. Whenever I play it and open another app, like Facebook or Instagram, the tanpura, tabla, and everything else stop playing. That’s already a big problem, but when I return to iShala and press play again, it starts playing at a very low volume. Then I have to remove it from the recent apps and open it again, and only then can I play it properly.Since it’s a phone, I obviously need to use other apps while practicing. I feel there are better apps than this one that provide much better service at the same price.I would recommend everyone not to buy this app. It is honestly very annoying.
