A geology reference covering minerals, rocks, earth layers, and the Mohs hardness scale. The mineral database contains 60+ entries across 8 categories: silicates, carbonates, oxides, sulfides, native elements, halides, sulfates, and phosphates. Each mineral entry includes hardness, chemical formula, streak color, luster type, crystal system, specific gravity, transparency, common colors, where it is found, commercial uses, and a background fact. Gem-quality minerals are flagged separately. The rock database contains 56 entries divided into igneous (23), sedimentary (18), and metamorphic (15). Each rock entry includes texture, color, density, hardness range, mineral composition with percentages, formation process, locations, and a background fact. Subtypes are specified where applicable (e.g., extrusive igneous, foliated metamorphic). The earth layer viewer presents a scrollable cross-section from the surface to the inner core — 10 layers total: topsoil, subsoil, sandstone, limestone, upper crust (granite), lower crust (basalt), upper mantle, lower mantle, outer core, and inner core. Each layer includes depth range in kilometers, temperature range, pressure range, density, composition, minerals found at that depth, and a description of conditions. The Mohs hardness scale displays all 10 reference minerals from talc (1) to diamond (10), with scratch test comparisons, real-world equivalents, and links to the corresponding mineral entries. The home screen displays a rotating mineral-of-the-day with key properties, quick access to all four sections, and a depth progress indicator. Supports metric and imperial units. All data stored on-device. No account required. Works offline.
