Talk to your whole team across the mountain, even where there is no signal: LoRa radios relay your voice from crest to crest, and the internet joins in wherever it works.
Comms is push-to-talk for teams at outdoor events, such as ski races, trail runs and mountain rescue drills. Everyone on the course, from marshals and medics to timing staff and race control, can talk, see each other on a map and raise an alarm, even where phones have no signal.
HOW IT WORKS
Each person carries a small Tracker Comms LoRa radio, paired with the phone over Bluetooth. The radios form a mesh: every radio repeats the others, so your voice hops from crest to crest across kilometres of terrain without any mobile network. Where the internet works, the event cloud joins in automatically and connects people who are out of radio range. You don't choose a path, because Comms uses whatever gets through.
No radio with you? You can still join the event and talk over the internet.
TALK
• Hold to talk, or turn on VOX and just speak, hands-free
• Duplex mode for open conversations
• 16 channels, one per team, with race control always highlighted
• See who is talking, how they reach you (radio or internet) and the signal quality
• Talk from the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island, with your headphones or a Bluetooth push-to-talk button
STAY TOGETHER
• Team map with everyone's position, activity (still, walking, skiing, on a lift) and radio battery
• Mesh view: see which radios hear each other and how voice is routed
• SOS: hold for two seconds to alert the whole event with your position; incoming alarms show name, distance and direction
CALLS
• Call a person or a group from the chat: it rings like a phone call, even with the app closed, on the lock screen, in the car and on Apple Watch
• End-to-end encrypted; full voice over the internet, over the radios when there is no signal
• In the Phone app's Recents and with Siri: "call Lela with Comms"
MESSAGES
• Chats and team groups, end-to-end encrypted with MLS, the IETF standard for secure group messaging
• Event announcements, polls, photos and voice notes
• Short messages also travel over the radios when there is no internet
• Siri reads and sends messages hands-free
IN THE CAR
• CarPlay: big Talk, Duplex, VOX and SOS buttons, channel up and down, and a status line with who is talking, radio and internet
• Team with distance and direction, the 16 channels, alerts and race control announcements
• Siri reads your messages and you reply with quick replies or dictation; incoming SOS fills the car screen
• Hands-free mode to talk and listen without touching anything
ON YOUR WRIST
• Apple Watch: hold to talk from the wrist, channel with the Digital Crown, who is talking, team with distance and direction, messages and SOS
• On Apple Watch Ultra, set the Action button to push-to-talk

JOIN IN SECONDS
Scan the event QR code from your organiser, or type its code. Then hold your radio against the phone for a second to pair it. A single "Ready" check tells you that microphone, radio, GPS and network are all fine before the start.
PRIVACY
Your position is shared only while you are in an event, and only with that event and its operator. There is no advertising, no tracking and no analytics. Voice is encrypted on your device. Account chats are end-to-end encrypted, so we can't read them.
Comms is made for organised events. The event operator sets up channels, radios and people from the Tracker Comms dashboard.
