The Wonder Weeks

A must-have for new parents.

Ever wish your baby could tell you exactly what they need during bouts of clinginess, crankiness or crying? The Wonder Weeks app can’t do that, of course – but it can offer educated guesses based on research findings that cognitive development occurs in mental “leaps” during a child’s first 20 months.

What we love: The Wonder Weeks takes the brilliant content of the bestselling book of the same name and makes it more accessible. Your baby’s leaps are displayed on a calendar, with forecasts for likely happy phases, fussy periods and stormy times. Along the way, you learn about the emotional and physical changes your baby may be encountering and how to develop their new-found skills.

Learn about upcoming “leaps” in your baby’s development and how to support them.

Quick tip: Expecting twins? You can add multiple profiles within the app. Tap the settings icon in the top right-hand corner, then “Add / switch profile” to enter your baby’s information.

Meet the creator: The Wonder Weeks, written by Dr Hetty van de Rijt and Dr Frans Plooij, was first released in 1992, following decades of research on parent-baby interaction. In 2017, the writers’ daughter, Xaviera Plas-Plooij, became CEO of The Wonder Weeks and turned it into a franchise that includes several parenting apps.
