Real-time monitoring of Ireland's All-Island electricity grid, rendered through a retro CRT terminal interface inspired by Cold War-era control rooms.
GRIDCON pulls live data from the EirGrid Smart Grid Dashboard and presents it the way grid operators might have seen it in 1979 — phosphor traces on dark screens, glowing readouts, and oscilloscope-style frequency monitoring. Every number is real. Every trace is live.
WHAT YOU CAN MONITOR
Grid Frequency
The heartbeat of the electrical system. Watch the AC frequency fluctuate around 50.000 Hz in real time on a phosphor oscilloscope display, updated every 15 seconds. Deviations of even 0.1 Hz tell a story about the balance between generation and demand across the entire island.
System Demand & Generation
Track how much power Ireland is consuming and producing, with 24-hour chart traces showing today's curve against yesterday's overlay. See peak demand times, generation headroom, and the daily rhythm of an entire nation's electricity consumption.
Wind & Solar
Ireland regularly achieves 70%+ wind penetration — world-leading for a synchronous power system. Watch wind and solar generation in real time, with percentage-of-generation tracking, animated wind turbine and sun graphics that respond to live output, and high-wind-penetration alerts.
Interconnectors
Three subsea cables link Ireland to Great Britain: Moyle, EWIC, and Greenlink. Monitor power flows on each cable with directional indicators showing whether Ireland is importing or exporting electricity. Includes an animated map showing real-time flow directions.
Grid Stability
SNSP (System Non-Synchronous Penetration) and CO₂ intensity metrics give you insight into how stable and how clean the grid is right now.
