We believe the best experiences are shaped by little details that quietly make the world of difference. This update brings refinements to iPhone Duo, improvements to playback and smart lighting, iOS 27.2 compatibility and a handful of small subtle improvements that make everything feel seamless. *What’s new in v4.1.1* - A more seamless Duo experience: Added a new transition when opening iPhone Duo from the Now Playing screen, alongside additional layout refinements. - Live Activities improvements: Refined the design and fixed an issue that could prevent Live Activities from starting. - A little more control: Added a Pomodoro Timer shortcut and new App Intents options to choose whether timers run in the foreground or background. - Smoother playback: Improved playback on slower connections, with refinements to make your experience more reliable. - More helpful guidance: Portal now provides guidance when visuals, audio or lighting are temporarily unavailable, helping you understand what’s happening and how to get things working again. - Improved smart lighting: More reliable HomeKit lighting connections. - Under-the-hood refinements: Fixed issues with cancelling audio downloads, managing audio sessions when returning to Portal from the background, and compatibility with iOS 27.2. As always, thank you for all your feedback and bug reports. The time, effort and care to drop us a line is certainly not lost on us and we’re incredibly grateful. Andy, Nick & Stu *Previously in v4.1.0* Sometimes, all it takes is opening a window. In an instant, the world beyond our walls feels a little closer. For 8 years, we’ve been working to bring that feeling to our devices. And then iPhone Duo came along, with the physical act of opening a window built into the hardware itself. A window to the world, in your pocket. What’s new - iPhone Duo support: open up new horizons with an experience designed around Duo’s unique form factor. Whether closed, unfolded, seated, or standing - Portal’s Focus and Pomodoro Timers, Sleep Timer and Wake Up Alarm have been thoughtfully redesigned to perfectly fit all of the Duo’s various poses. - A more immersive Library: a simplified design brings the places you love closer, with refined layouts and smoother transitions. - Smoother navigation: refined animations and transitions make exploring Portal feel more fluid. - Design refinements: improvements throughout the app, including better support for Dynamic Type. - Playback and environment controls: further refinements to help you make your experience your own. - Performance improvements: image loading, caching and playback refinements for a smoother, more reliable experience. 8 years ago, we chose the name Portal because we believed in the magic of opening a window to somewhere else. We’ve spent all this time trying to live up to it, finding new ways to bring the natural world a little closer to home. Seeing that idea take on a new, more tangible form with iPhone Duo is a special moment. Thank you for being part of the journey, for sharing in what we’re building, and for reminding us why it matters. We hope you enjoy jumping into the fold, Andy, Nick & Stu

There’s something magical about opening a window. In an instant, the world beyond our walls feels a little closer. For 8 years, we’ve been working to bring that feeling into our everyday lives. Now, with support for iPhone Duo, the physical act of opening a window is built into the hardware itself. Unfolding the Duo becomes part of the experience. As the screen opens up, so does a window to nature. It’s a small but meaningful detail that brings our physical and digital worlds a little closer together. A window to the world, in your pocket. Hot on the heels of our last update, here’s another small but important one, helping to iron out some of those early v4 creases - with fixes for Circadian Flow, video playback, Offline Mode and Focus Timers. What’s new in v4.0.3 - More Reliable Circadian Flow: fixed an issue that could cause Circadian Flow to jump to the wrong part of the day at midnight in some timezones. - More Reliable Playback: fixed an issue that could prevent video playback from recovering after being paused for a long time. - Better Offline Mode: fixed an issue that could cause the play button and images to mysteriously disappear in certain situations. - Smoother Focus Timers: fixed a bug that could prevent playback from starting automatically when enabled in the Focus Timer advanced settings. A special thank you to Ian from the UK, who spotted the Circadian Flow issue and helped us track down and fix it. And, a big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to report bugs and share feedback with us. There are always a few bumps in the road with an update as significant as v4 - but what we’re always, always super grateful for is the patience, understanding, and trust in us that if things don’t quite go to plan, we’ll move heaven and earth to fix it. It genuinely means more than words can convey. *Portal v4* Portal has always been about bringing the natural world a little closer to home and into our daily lives, because we believe nature is fundamental to our health, wellbeing, and a quiet part of what it means to be human. Our biggest update in 7 years touches every part of the experience, making Portal more in tune with the wild world beyond our walls. Here’s what’s new: - All-New Liquid Glass Design: building on the biophilic principles at the heart of Portal, Liquid Glass brings the fluidity & physicality of the natural world into the app. Requires iOS 26/iPadOS 26 and up. - Circadian Flow: sync Portal with your local time of day and play portals that mirror the rhythm and changing light of the world outside. - Streaming Playback: play portals instantly without downloading first. - Playable Collections: play entire collections as a seamless journey. - Audio Normalisation: balance volume levels between portals for smoother transitions. - Favourites: save the portals you love most in one place. - Search: easily find portals you’re looking for or discover somewhere new. - Widgets: Home Screen, Lock Screen & Control Centre widgets for quick access. - Timers & Alarms: a new Pomodoro timer and enhanced alarm controls make it easier to focus, wind down or wake with nature. iOS 26 required for AlarmKit support. - Handoff: pick up where you left off and move seamlessly between devices. - Improved Siri Integration: use Siri for media playback and search, with on-screen awareness. - Orientation Enhancements: landscape views on iPhone and portrait on iPad. - Window Resizing: supported on iPhone and iPad. Huge thanks to our beta testers for their patience, feedback, bug reports and good humour - you’ve helped us create something we’re incredibly proud of. Andy, Alex, Nick & Stu - Team Portal

An important update to Wake Up Alarms and Sleep Timers, alongside a handful of fixes and refinements to make Portal v4 simpler, easier and more enjoyable to use. What’s new in v4.0.2 - A Better Wake Up: we’ve listened to your feedback, and we know the Wake Up experience hasn’t been as intuitive as it should be. We’ve worked day and night to completely rework it - with clearer settings, better volume control (including a preview option) and easier set up with tips to help. When an alarm is running, you can now swipe down to continue or end the Wake Up experience. We’ve also changed it so that your alarm and timer settings no longer have to be manually saved - it's now automatic. - Favourite Curation: a new popover list makes it easier to see, reorder and remove the portals in Your Favourites carousel. - Better Breathing: breathing exercises now have a countdown before they begin and a stop button when paused. Audio cues now continue to play when you close the Now Playing screen or when Portal is playing in the background. - More Reliable Behind the Scenes: fixed crashes when rotating the device with info windows open, improved recovery when Library images temporarily fail to load, and lighting connections now more reliable when restoring from an iCloud backup. - Notably More Helpful: a note now appears in the Membership screen explaining what happens when a Guest Pass ends. We’ve also added a dedicated ‘Restore Purchase’ option for those times when the App Store doesn’t immediately recognise you have an active Membership. - Some Added Polish: enhanced support for iPhone 18 Pro & Pro Max, fixed volume & lighting sliders on iOS 18, improved reduce motion support. To everyone who’s shared feedback on Wake Up Alarms and Sleep Timers - thank you. We’re sorry the experience hasn’t been what it should have been. We’ve listened and we hope this update feels like a big step forward. Not just fixing what wasn’t working, but making the whole experience significantly better than before. And huge thanks to Franzisca (Switzerland), Craig (UK) and Simon (UK), along with everyone else who helped us hunt down sneaky bugs and smooth off rough edges. *Portal v4* Portal has always been about bringing the natural world a little closer to home and into our daily lives, because we believe nature is fundamental to our health, wellbeing, and a quiet part of what it means to be human. A small update with fixes and improvements to make Portal v4 even smoother. What’s new in v4.0.1 - Better Alarms: improved wake-up alarm reliability, including more dependable backups and helpful guidance on first set-up. - Smoother Playback: fixed an issue that could prevent background video playback from resuming when returning to the app, as well as controls disappearing on first play. - Improved iPad Experience: Settings now remembers your last-used tab, while you can swipe between portals in Now Playing using the iPad trackpad. - Better Scrolling: improved performance throughout, and tapping the top of a scrolled Library screen now takes you straight back up top. - More Polish: fixed the Now Playing layout when using zoomed mode on iPhone, improved Breathing exercises with a clear glass interface, and made it easier to cancel an alarm with a long press of the timer icon. Thank you to everyone who kindly shared their feedback. Special mention to Marc from Spain and Blake from NY, USA, who helped with some particularly sneaky bugs. *Portal v4* Portal has always been about bringing the natural world a little closer to home and into our daily lives, because we believe nature is fundamental to our health, our wellbeing, and a quiet part of what it means to be human. Happy New Year everyone! We’ve been working hard to get our MacOS beta ready for release, it’s not quite there yet but we’re confident that we’re not too far off now - we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, a couple of pesky audio bugs have popped up following the latest iOS & iPadOS releases. So here are a couple of fixes that will get things sounding great again! - Sometimes Portal could get into a state where Static and Dynamic Spatial Audio would play at the same time, this has now been fixed. - We’ve clarified the messaging when headphones stop sending motion data (required for Dynamic Spatial Audio) and added an FAQ explaining how to fix the issue. - Fixes an issue where Portal’s audio controls could become unresponsive following a Siri conversation. As always we are super grateful to everyone that raised these with us and helped us get to the bottom of things. If you’ve encountered any bugs or have any feedback, please don’t hesitate to let us know - we’d love to hear from you. PS. We’re still on the lookout for more people happy to help us test our Mac beta. All that’s required is a Mac and a love of immersive sound and visuals! We've got a treat for your ears...the magic of Dynamic Spatial Audio has arrived! ----- With Portal our ultimate goal is to deliver an experience that allows you to truly escape and "feel like you're there" in the midst of some of the world's greatest locations. Sound has always been at the heart of this experience and we've been thrilled by recent advances in Spatial Audio technology that have allowed us to push what's possible in terms of realism and immersion. If you own a pair of AirPods Pro, AirPods Max or 3rd generation AirPods this release adds support for Dynamic Spatial Audio which uses head tracking technology to anchor the soundscapes around you. If you turn your head your virtual surroundings will remain in place, just as they would do in real life. It's been a labour of love and the culmination of almost 12 months of Research & Development, requiring us to completely re-engineer our entire sound production and delivery pipeline, all in the pursuit of a natural & realistic experience. We've worked with the world's greatest Spatial Audio field recordists to re-release a large proportion of the library with full support for Dynamic Spatial Audio and we've partnered with Atmoky, a world-leading Spatial Audio R&D company, to implement state-of-the-art Spatial Audio rendering within the app that's specifically tailored for natural ambiences. Even if you don't have a pair of AirPods that support headtracking you'll still hear the benefits over the coming months as we release new content using the upgraded technology and further push what's possible through both headphone and speaker playback... :) --- Additionally, 3.5.3 includes the following changes: - We've added more details about what's included in Portal Premium. - The audio controls now fit better on smaller iPad screen sizes. - Launching Portal with 'mix with others" turned on whilst another audio source is playing no longer pauses the other App's audio. - Shortcuts and Quick Actions now automatically start playback if Portal was previously in a paused state.
