I have been studying with Duo Lingo for almost three years. And then I had to drop with them. Because at every time they will tell you to protect your freeze. and I you do not have it. You had to buy points to continue protecting your freeze. Otherwise, you lose every single day you spend. Last time I spent more 290 days and I took a rest because I had a national country party, when I came back I found 0 day mean I have to repeat from the beginning or buying points this is an indirect scam while I use to be with other institutes online in contrary they encourage you without taking your points finally I advise any one thing before you start with Duo lingo

Useful yet discouraging

Very useful, yet very frustrating and discouraging, and when you advance more, They just push you towards wanting to pay. Which I don’t mind for any game or app, either for the value of the item or just to support a certain developer for their effort. But specifically for this app, i do not want to pay, because with having unlimited “hearts”, mistakes would be less costly, diminishing their effect.It is always very useful to go back to older lessons to practice and gain more hearts when you run out of them, especially when you are making genuine mistakes that help you get better. Yet the app has double standards in correcting your mistakes, )even though flagged and reported many times as seen in the comments) or instead used trick (visually mostly) questions that have no purpose connected to learning, just to throw you off and direct you towards paying in certain manner. Think of it like a cheap video game death, or intentional bad design of a stage in that is “difficult” but you can easily pass with paid DLC. I recorded the “mistakes” that i did and sent them to native spanish speakers, and they made the exact same mistakes that i did. Which proved this for me. I would have given this 6 out 5 if that was not the case. It’s that good of a learning tool. Too bad.

Hi, I've been a duolingo user for almost a year, and it helped me along the way with my French and Korean. I would give this a 5 star if they didn't remove some features including:1- Sucking the life out of the guides in the exercises.You know the 9 human characters and the bear who also help with your lessons? The designs are adorable in every way, and they also have some lore for some people interested. The only way they sucked the life out of them is the animations during the lesson. They added some unsettling lip-syncing and sort of made their actions look robotic (show less emotion, have the entire body move as if they were a piece of paper). I would like a setting that lets you choose between the old animations or the new ones.2- Making the stories a must to continue.I personally never read the stories because I'm kind of cautious about some topics that are unacceptable to Islam (specifically, the topic of "Logic Getting Back To Quills" -i don't wanna say the actual thing so just turn that sentence into an acronym) which some stories include. The thing I miss is that you have the choice of reading them or not to improve, and it would not affect anything. Now in my French lesson, I have to read stories to continue my course. Please add the story tab again so I don't suffer this pain of worry. Other than these issues, I have no other issue with this app. In fact, I recommend it to help you with your language. But same with anything else in life, it also has its downsides
