ALL YOUR READING IN ONE PLACE
Stop juggling half a dozen reading apps. Reader brings all your content into one place including:
• Web articles
• Email newsletters
• RSS feeds
• Twitter threads
• PDFs
• EPUBs
You can even import your existing library from Pocket and Instapaper and RSS feeds from Feedly, Inoreader, Feedbin, etc.
POWERFUL HIGHLIGHTING FOR POWER READERS
We believe that annotations are the key to getting more out of what you read. So we’ve developed highlighting as a first-class feature inside Reader. Highlight images, links, rich text, and more. On any device.
READER WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU READ
We’ve reinvented the digital reading experience to apply the power of software to the printed word. This includes TEXT-TO-SPEECH (listen to any document narrated with the lifelike voice of a real human), GHOSTREADER (your integrated copilot of reading enabling you to ask questions, define terms, simplify complex language, and more), and FULL-TEXT SEARCH (find whatever you’re looking for, even if you only remember a single word).
FLEXIBLE SOFTWARE TO FIT YOUR UNIQUE NEEDS
Your personal interests, your professional projects, your way of doing things — they’re unique. Reader is your home base for the varied documents in your life, customizable to match the way your brain works.
PDFs for work, articles for your newsletter, and ebooks for pleasure all live comfortably side-by-side. No more juggling dozens of apps.
INTEGRATED WITH YOUR FAVORITE TOOLS
Your annotations should flow effortlessly from your reading app into your writing tool of choice. Instead you waste hours reformatting, reorganizing, and repeating. Reader eliminates this hassle. Reader seamlessly connects to Readwise which exports to Obsidian, Notion, Roam Research, Evernote, Logseq, and more
READ ANYWHERE, ANYTIME
Access all of your content from any of your devices with everything in sync. Even offline. Reader syncs across all platforms, including a powerful, local-first web app and iOS. You can even highlight the open web with the Reader browser extensions.

Fixed Podcast Routing — Mati fixed a bug where some Apple Podcasts URLs with extra query parameters (like ?l=) added via URL were being categorized as Articles instead of Podcasts.
Fixed YouTube Dates — Mati fixed an issue where newly saved YouTube videos were missing their published date.
Parsing Updates — Tristan, Rasul, and Krzys worked this week to account for a change in Twitter's API that briefly disrupted tweet and list imports. Krzys also improved how Reader displays tweets and X posts, as well as content from craft.do.
Previously:
Expanded Horizontal Pages — Mati fixed an issue where 2-column reading mode on large tablets had excessive padding. The columns now use the full available screen width in horizontal pagination + the XL width setting.
Fixed Highlight Navigation — Adam fixed a glitch with navigating to highlights using the notebook. Tapping highlights in the side panel should now take you to the relevant part of the document.
Fixed YouTube Subtitles — Mati fixed an issue where YouTube videos weren't displaying subtitles in Reader due to a change on YouTube's end. Affected videos have been reparsed.
Fixed Fullscreen Images — Arek fixed a bug where the comment and tag buttons would flash but not respond when viewing images in fullscreen mode, particularly in EPUBs.
Improved PDF Enhancement — Johannes tweaked what happens when a PDF's text enhancement fails. You'll now see a clear message with a "View as PDF" button to fall back to the original, rather than a loading animation.
Fixed TTS Jump Button — Mati fixed an issue where the TTS "jump to current position" button would reset to the beginning of the chapter when using horizontal pagination mode. It now correctly jumps to where the audio is playing.
Fixed Tap-to-Scroll — You can once again tap the status bar to scroll to the top of document lists on iPhones, thanks to Mati.
Fixed Image Loading — Arek fixed an issue on iOS where certain article images (specifically .svgz compressed SVG files) weren't loading properly in full-size mode.
Podcast Transcripts — share any podcast episode from Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Overcast into Reader, and it will be saved as a permanent, highlightable transcript.
Sticky Tablet Sidebars — You can now keep sidebars open while using Reader on tablets. In documents, opening the table of contents or notebook sidebar shrinks the reading view, so you can still scroll and highlight text. In your Library and Feed, the sidebar stays open so you can browse documents with the same context you’d see on the web version of the app.
Better Offline Control — Choose which categories of documents to keep available offline from the offline documents section of the Account screen. A new status shows whether a location is currently downloading. Documents also now have more informative messages if they aren't available, which should be rare as long as you open the app for a few seconds to give everything time to download. Johannes also fixed a bug where the experimental offline caching feature could freeze interactive elements in the app.
Improved Action Sheets — Action sheets should now float nicely in the center of tablet screens, instead of at the bottom. Mati also got to the bottom of a glitch preventing highlight deletion and the action menu from working properly on PDFs. Artem fixed a glitch that caused some other action sheets not to show all their options. Arek fixed a bug where multiple bottom sheets could stay open at the same time. Using “find in document” and similar options should be easier now.
Our full ePubs v2 feature includes 10x+ better performance on books, a dedicated long-form reading UI, and so much more. Our goal is to have Reader be the best app in the world for reading books (in addition to other formats), and this project is a big step towards that.

Fixed Fullscreen Images — Arek fixed a bug where the comment and tag buttons would flash but not respond when viewing images in fullscreen mode, particularly in EPUBs.
Fixed TTS Auto-Scroll — Starting text-to-speech would sometimes cause an unexpected scroll that broke the word-by-word tracking. TTS should smoothly follow along with the audio again.

Artem fixed a glitch that caused some other action sheets not to show all their options. Arek fixed a bug where multiple bottom sheets could stay open at the same time. Using “find in document” and similar options should be easier now.
Fixed iOS Interface — Mati addressed an issue where new iOS window controls were overlapping with Reader buttons, making them difficult to tap. The interface now properly accommodates iOS26 system elements. Arek fixed a glitch where if you opened the app on iPhone in landscape mode, it could sometimes cause documents and lists to become misaligned and overflow the screen. Mati fixed a glitch caused by PDFs triggering landscape mode on regular phones.
Our full ePubs v2 feature includes 10x+ better performance on books, a dedicated long-form reading UI, and so much more. Our goal is to have Reader be the best app in the world for reading books (in addition to other formats), and this project is a big step towards that.

Horizontal Pagination — Tablets have an experimental new two-column reading mode. Horizontal pagination also allows you to highlight onto the next page going to the right or left, instead of up or down like continuous and paged scroll modes.
Fixed Touch Navigation — Mati resolved an issue where navigation taps weren’t registering in the bottom third of the screen. Mati also fixed a glitch causing highlights to be created from taps when they shouldn't be. You should now be able to advance pages without accidentally creating highlights. Arek fixed a bug where tapping the top-right icons on iPad (like the appearance settings or highlights view) could cause the page to unexpectedly scroll to the top of the chapter.
Fixed Highlight Menus — Lior fixed a bug where the highlight menu sometimes continued showing up after turning a page in long-form reading mode. Mati improved the reliability of the highlight menu appearing when you select single words on iOS. You should now see the menu more consistently after making a selection.
Fixed Note Flashing — Arek fixed a visual glitch where text would briefly flash on the left side of the input box when you finished writing a note.
Fixed Article Layout — Arek fixed a bug where article text was extending too far to the right on some RSS feeds, making them difficult to read.
Fixed Delete Scroll — Arek fixed a bug where using "Delete All Above" in your Feed kept you at the same scroll position instead of returning you to the top of the list
Fixed PDF Highlights — Arek fixed a bug where PDF highlight overlays would sometimes duplicate, especially after switching between light and dark mode or returning to the document.

Further Tablet Improvements — Mati fixed a bug where modal sheets weren't properly centered in landscape mode on tablets. Folks who prefer to use Safari on their iPad instead of the mobile app should no longer see a banner nudge to suggest installing the mobile app. Mati also got rid of some unnecessary black margins at the top of YouTube videos on iPad, and fixed a glitch where taps with the Apple Pencil wouldn’t register on links.

Fixed Auto-Advance — On web, deleting the current document or using the shortlist keybinding now properly advances to the next document when auto-advance is on, thanks to Scott. (This fix will be coming to the mobile app soon.)
Fixed Image Viewing — Image data is now properly reset when images are closed, thanks to Andrew. Now, gestures like zooming and changing positions will not affect the next image.
iOS Custom Icons — Arek added new iOS 18 icons, enabling improved dark mode and tint mode variants for a gorgeous monochrome home screen. Navigate to Account → Change Icon to check out the options!
Better TTS Voices — Try out the new (v8 beta) voices for Text to Speech which are the most lifelike yet! These voices should now be the default in Reader if you haven't selected your own preferred voice. We also fixed crackling/distortion in the new voices.
Improved Performance — We updated one of the core libraries that Reader is built on, which has made the app measurably faster! Johannes made some speed improvements to scrolling, so navigating your your document lists should feel much smoother now. Artem also removed some code that could prevent documents from loading in some rare cases.
Improved Youtube viewing — We improved the transcript tracking/autoscrolling for youtube videos, and now automatically enhance the transcripts for most videos so they're easily highlightable. You will see a much clearer error message when viewing YouTube videos while offline.
Summaries in List View — We now display the summary and document title/favicon in the mobile actions sheet: just long press any document in a list to get a quick peak at a document's summary without having to open it.
Discover Documents — Mati built an easy way to bulk add some of Reader’s most popular documents directly to your account, hand-curated by our Wisereads editor Abi.
Export Everything — Thanks to Piotr, Reader's "Export PDFs and EPUBs" feature has been reworked to "Export full files and articles" which not only exports your uploaded files but also all of your Reader document HTMLs.
So many bug fixes — to tags, the Omnivore import, Youtube AI transcript enhancement, ghostreader summaries, loading states (no more flickering when new documents are imported), progress bars, text-to-speech, and more!

This build has our full ePubs v2 feature -- 10x+ better performance on books, a dedicated long-form reading UI, and so much more. Our goal is to have Reader be the best app in the world for reading books (in addition to other formats), and this project is a big step towards that :)
We completely rewrote the PDF Clean View feature, which allows you to read, highlight, and listen to PDFs as if they’re any other responsive document. A much cleaner and nicer way to read your PDFs, on any screen size.
This build also introduces e-ink mode, much faster initial document loading (for all types of documents), and much more.

Improved Performance — Mitch, Tristan and Hannes upgraded our database, which means Reader now runs faster and more reliably.
Fixed Twitter Saving — X (formerly Twitter) changed a set of endpoints over the weekend, preventing us from accessing full threads or metadata (titles, author, etc). Tristan rewrote huge chunks of our integration, and now everything should be properly saved.
Parsing Updates — Kryzs made improvements to how Reader handles redirects, as well as posts from http://yahoo.com/ and http://stackoverflow.com/. Rasul improved how we handle emails from Stratechary.

Parsing Updates — Kryzs made improvements to how Reader handles posts from medium.com, substack.com, newyorker.com, chatgpt.com, and bonappetit.com, simonwillison.net, theverge.com, and spectrum.ieee.org.
Improved Performance — Johannes made some speed improvements to scrolling, so navigating your your document lists should feel much smoother now. Artem also removed some code thaat could prevent documents from loading in some rare cases.
Better Youtube Transcripts — We improved the transcript tracking/autoscrolling for youtube videos, an now automatically enhance (improve the punctuation, capitalization, etc) the transcripts for most videos so they're easily highlightable.
Resize Youtube Videos — You can now resize YouTube videos on the web, thanks to Mati. If you grab the small horizontal bar under the video and drag it up or down, the video will adapt to the new height. On mobile, you will see a much clearer error message when viewing YouTube videos while offline.'
New Summaries in List View — We now display the summary and document title/favicon in the mobile actions sheet: just long press any document from a list view (like “Later” or your Feed) to get a quick peak at a document's summary without having to open it.
UI Improvements — The front matter (top header, buttons, etc) in the document view got a big redesign courtesy of Kris and Johannes, with the summary showing in a toggle view above the document content. It’s now easier to start TTS from anywhere within the document — check out the new play button in the top right. The option to change appearance is now in the bottom sheet. Excessively long metadata is now truncated, Ghostreader summaries can be about twice as long, and emails look a lot nicer in the Daily Digest.

7.5 2025/05/14
