Organize Project Lists - We’ve made it much easier to organize your projects: - Easily find your most recently edited projects with Play’s new Recents tab. The 10 projects you’ve opened most recently will appear here automatically, ready for you to continue where you left off. - Tags are no longer just a search filter. Now, they appear as folders in the sidebar, making it easy to view all projects associated with a specific tag. You can still view all projects at once and search within any tag folder. Small Improvements - Track your App Clip’s publishing process with our new status toast. - The macOS Simulator now supports isPad and isCustom functions. - The currentStateName function is now available in the Expression Editor for components. - Send an image to an API as base64 using the base64Image and - Stylistic Set Options are available for SF fonts, including: straight-sided six and nine, open four, vertically centered colon, open currencies, high legibility, single story a, and calculator. Rive Data Binding - We now support Rive data binding! As Rive explains it, “Data binding is a ‘contract’ between designers and developers” that introduces “intermediate data that both sides can bind to.” Essentially, data binding allows you to create View Models with properties that designers can use in their designs and developers can connect to a data source. A designer can use “Color 1” across their Rive and the developer can separately define what “Color 1” is. - Rive has been moving users away from inputs and towards data binding, and now Rive users can easily test their Rive files with data binding inside Play! Figma Updates - You can now import your tokens from Figma into Play as styles! Just download the plugin Tokens Studio (link) in Figma, download the JSON, and upload it into Play. - Copy paste Figma import is still supported, and now Figma text is automatically imported into Play as a text element. No need to “make editable.” Play AI Updates - Give Play AI’s Generate command additional context by uploading a HTML file, JSON file, or image. Improvements - We now support several additional Expression Editor properties and functions: - Cast items as SVGs to access SVG-specific properties with the castAsSVG function or .asSVG property. - Get device version properties like version, versionMajor, versionMinor, versionPatch, and versionString. - Return a value within a range with the clamp function, which takes a current value, minimum value, and maximum value and returns the current value, unless it is outside the defined range, in which case it returns the minimum or maximum value. - Update the text or symbol of a navigation bar item with expression editor properties. Introducing Play AI The future of design isn’t just about AI generating code — it’s AI and creators working together in one seamless environment. With this release, we’re introducing the first phase of Play AI, built directly into Play — not a separate product. Use AI to design, prototype, generate views, and export to Xcode — all from inside the Play editor. What’s new - Prototype with Natural Language: Use /interaction and describe interactions like “on tap, open Profile in a sheet” or “make this draggable,” and Play AI builds it instantly. - Design & Apply Effects: Quickly add components, apply effects like Liquid Glass, or make system-wide changes with a single command. - Generate with AI View: Instantly create screens, widgets, or flows from prompts — all directly within your project. - Select and Rename: Use Play AI to avoid grunt work - command & select (grunt work) - content (image & text) Play’s new AI View is a web-based view for displaying and interacting with AI-generated results created when you use Play’s /generate prompt. When you submit a prompt, Play uses Claude to generate structured outputs that can be modules, pages, or complete multi-screen flows. These results are rendered within the AI View using a web-based preview layer, allowing you to review and experiment with the AI generated content directly on the Play canvas. In essence, the AI View bridges Play’s integrated design editor with LLM–powered generation, offering a similar experience to “vibe coding” tools like Lovable — but directly within the Play ecosystem. Availability Play AI is currently in beta and available to all users on any plan. During the beta phase, we’ve set a daily credit limit, which may change as we continue testing and tuning performance. After beta, Play AI will transition to a tiered credit system — with different credit amounts included for each paid plan. Other Updates Set Color Action Set any fill—background color, text color, symbol tint color, etc.—using a *Set Color action*. Colors can be set with RGBA, HSL, or HSB values, with a Hex code or variable, or with a color style or the color picker. Haptic Updates - Adjust playback for custom haptics in Set Haptic actions. - Disable haptics through interactions using a Mute Haptic action. Other Improvements - We’ve reworked many of our prefabs! You’ll see slightly different names in the prefabs list. - New properties are available in the expression editor for text, textfields, buttons, and sliders. - Alerts and action sheets can now be triggered from nav bar items. - Code export now supports tab bar and nav bar.

Play version 3.9 lets you design using the new iOS 26 elements including Liquid Glass! Glass Effect - Apply Liquid Glass to any object in Play by enabling the Glass effect property in the Appearance Panel. You can customize the Glass effect’s style, interactivity, appearance, and tint so the object refracts background content much like real glass. Glass Container - A Glass Container combines multiple glass elements into a single shape that can morph together individual shapes into one. You can control the distance at which the morphing begins using the container’s Spacing property. Scroll Edge Effect - Scroll Edge Effects create a subtle gradient + blur effect on the edge of a page or scroll container, allowing foreground content to stay visible above the scrolling content. When enabled, nav and tab bars trigger Scroll Edge Effects automatically. For custom foreground items to trigger Scroll Edge Effects, the Connect Edge Effect property must be enabled for the foreground item. Updated Nav Bar & Tab Bar - Native navigation bars and tab bars use the new Liquid Glass style, making them visually responsive to other content on the page. Both the nav and tab bar changes light/dark color based on the scrollable content and morphs buttons between pages. The tab bar now floats near the device’s bottom edge with a glass effect. - Navigation bar and tab bar items can also now use PNG images in addition to SF Symbols. Custom images should be sized at 24x24 px at 3x and have a transparent background. Updated UI Elements - Several of Apple’s native elements—Sliders, switches, segmented controls, steppers, pickers, sheets, menus, alerts, and action sheets—look and function differently in iOS 26, and those updates are reflected in Play. Slider Ticks & Neutral Value - Native sliders can now display ticks indicating steps along the slider’s range. A slider can display ticks for each step, no steps, or for specific steps only, and you can decide if the slider’s value should snap to the ticks or be a more freeform slider. - You can also set an anchor point for the slider’s fill by adding a Neutral Value. For a default slider, this anchor point is the left-most side, making the natural value 0. New SF Symbols & Draw In/Out Effect - We’ve added over 400 new SF Symbols and two new SF Symbol animations, Draw In and Draw Out. These animations show or hide a symbol based on its path, creating a drawing effect. Concentric Corners - Create perfectly aligned corners by enabling the Concentric property in each child’s corner radius sub panel. Play automatically matches the corner radius curvature to the parent, so your designs stay consistent. You can choose to enable concentric corners for all corners with the Uniform property or enable individual corners. Other Improvements - We added new iPhone Bezels for iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air. - Code Export for this version of Play includes support for glass effect, glass effect container, glass button style, concentric corners, SF symbol effects, and slider updates. You can instead choose to export for iOS 18 from the code panel dropdown.

iPad Viewer We now officially support designing & prototyping for iPad apps! Design on your desktop then view your prototype in its native environment—your iPad! Our iPad app is the same as our iOS app, so if you already have Play for iOS downloaded on iPad, you just need to update to 3.8.0! If not, you can download the app and connect to macOS the same way you do on iOS. Portrait vs. Landscape View Play now allows you to control how your app behaves in portrait and landscape orientations. You can set an initial orientation, choose which orientations your project supports, and use interactions to adapt your design when the device rotates. Orientation changes can trigger actions through Device Events, and conditions based on Expression Editor properties like isPortrait, isLandscape, or orientation let you define behavior specific to each orientation. Rive Updates With a Rive file selected in Design Mode, you can now choose either a State Machine or an Animation directly from the Animation property. State Machines work the same way as before, while Animations unlock new properties—Direction and Loop—enabling simpler playback without needing a state machine. Other Improvements - Code Export now supports selected native elements: Slider, Switch, Activity Indicator, Stepper, Segmented Control, and Picker. - Level up your user testing sessions by seeing each interaction the user has with your prototype using an App Clip touch indicator. - Segmented Control elements can now use a custom font, rather than the default System font set by Apple. We’ll be rolling this out to additional native elements in the future! - You can now dismiss a page or sheet from a nav bar button - We have a new action, Set Stack Direction, that sets a stack’s direction to V (Vertical), H (Horizontal), or Z. - The Expression Editor now supports: - Setting or getting the width and height with .contentWidth, .contentHeight, fill, or auto - SF Symbol properties like Weight, Scale, and Size - Text properties like Weight and Design Bug Fixes - The app crashed when a Rive file did not have a selected state machine - The app crashed when creating a Type Style via a button’s Context Bar - The app crashed when exporting a Swift button with a custom font - Play Simulator’s sync broke when switching between projects - The Rive Animation menu incorrectly displayed a Dark Theme color scheme - The Simulator Devices **menu retained its hover state after the window was dismissed - Custom size presets values for the Simulator were not working - Setting SVG tint with a Set Variable action was not working - Color variables can now be set with both the color picker and hex values

Triple Tap to Exit Play Mode Due to our new Zoom transition feature, we’ve had to change the exit gesture for Play Mode. Instead of a two finger long press, you’ll now double tap with three fingers to exit Play Mode. To reset the prototype, you’ll still double tap with two fingers. Import Library Keep your projects consistent by importing one project’s design system to another project. By clicking on the Import Library button (CMD + I), you can select any project and import its assets, styles, components, pages, events, and/or custom prefabs from the selected project. Zoom Transition Open Page now supports [Zoom transition](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/swiftui/zoomnavigationtransition). Zoom transition is an animation where a tapped element (like a card or image) smoothly grows to fill the screen as it becomes the new page, creating visual continuity between screens.Keep your projects consistent by importing one project’s design system to another project. By clicking on the Import Library button (CMD + I), you can select any project and import its assets, styles, components, pages, events, and/or custom prefabs from the selected project. Small Features & Improvements - Our Timer trigger & Timer helper now offer a “Fires Immediately” option. This fires the Timer’s actions immediately, then again at each interval, rather than waiting a full interval before it first fires. - Video elements now support .mov video files, in addition to .mp4. - You can now check if a value is “nil” using the new Expression Editor function, isNil. This function is great for checking if a variable is nil or if a key is missing in a dictionary. - You can now select multiple Figma text elements and make them all “Editable” at once. Bugs - Variables set to nil were reverting to their previous values - The Expression Editor wasn’t showing proper autocomplete for dictionaries/arrays set to nil - Custom Detent Values in Open Sheet actions weren’t applied when mirroring in the Simulator - Video thumbnail previews were not appearing in Play to Xcode - The Grid (Fill Width) prefab was not working

Custom Font for Nav & Tab Bar - You can now customize native navigation bars and native tab bars even more than before! Use any Play provided or uploaded font for the nav bar title, nav bar items, and tab bar items. - For the nav bar title, select a font from the Large & Small Title Style property. If you do not select a custom font, the nav bar will use the default System Font. - For the nav bar items, select a font by clicking the format button on a Custom Text item. - For the tab bar items, select a font from the Label Style property. If you do not select a custom font, the tab bar labels will use the default System Font. Lobby Search - No more scrolling through your long list of projects! We now have Lobby Search, allowing you to search by name or tag for projects, drafts, Learn & Inspiration projects, and tutorials. - You can add tags using the tag button on each project in the Lobby. You can to assign one or more tags to a project, separating each tag by a comma. Tutorial Tab - Instead of heading to YouTube to search for Play tutorials, you can now access tutorials from the new Tutorials tab in the Explore Section. Other Improvements - Code Export now supports Arrays - New Keyboard shortcuts - Open a new Sim: shift + O - Lock Selection: shift + P - Pro plans can now export an unlimited number of items in Play to Xcode, same as the Enterprise Plan. - We added a new Device Event trigger: On Screenshot Taken. Now, when a user takes a screenshot with their iPhone, you can complete additional actions in Play. Big Updates to Rive Support in Play! All Rive files are now rendered natively! This gives a massive performance boost and also lets us render the latest effects in Rive, including vector feathering. You do not need to update existing Rive files within Play project—Play will do that automatically. Other important updates for Rive in this release: • You can now select an artboard in the uploaded Rive file from a drop down, rather than typing in the exact artboard name. • Interactions in Rive carry over to Play! If you build a Rive that supports gestures, you’ll now be able to interact with it in Play. Previously, our interface with Rive was limited to inputs (where we could set information) and events (where we could listen). Now, we can actively interact with the Rive in Play. • We’ve added new Rive Actions: • Set Artboard: Sets a Rive file’s artboard and state machine through an interaction. • Set Rive Input: We’ve deprecated the old action (the one without the artboard dropdown) and created a new version that includes the artboard dropdown. Existing interactions will remain as they are. • Set Rive Volume & Set Rive Mute • The From Animation event no longer requires an Event Type. We can now automatically detect the event type. • We’ve added expressions to read current input values. We’ve added getInput(name) and setInput(name, value) to read and set input values from the expression editor. • New Rive content modes including Fit Height, Fit Width, Layout, No Fit, Scale Down, Fit Height, Fit Width, Layout, No Fit, Scale Down. UI Alert You can now create native alerts in Play! Easily create an Alert or Action Sheet style native alert and display it based on user interaction. Within a native alert, you can customize action items or input text fields. Simply use the new Alert trigger and actions in Interaction Mode! • Alert triggers create a native alert with a title, message, and selected style. Alert trigger do not display an alert. • Alert Actions create action items within an alert which can fire additional actions when tapped. • Alert Text Field actions add an input text field to the alert, letting users enter data from within the alert’s UI. • Show Alert actions display an alert created using an Alert trigger based on user interaction. Other Improvements • Code Export now supports Blur, Blend Mode, Shadows, and Borders. • Viewers can now see prototypes on the macOS Simulator. Map Gesture Trigger - We added a new trigger that fires when a specific gesture is performed on a map. Fire any actions when the pan starts, changes, ends, or is cancelled, or when the map’s region will or does change. SwiftUI Button - In addition to UIButton, we’ve added SwiftUI Button! There aren’t too many functional differences between these two elements, but SwiftUI Button exports more seamlessly to Xcode, so it’s a better choice if you’re copying SwiftUI code. Event Trigger Updates We renamed the lifecycle events: - Page Event triggers now include On Load, On Appear, On Disappear, On Will Appear, On Will Disappear, On Sheet Dismiss, and On Sheet Will Dismiss. - View Event triggers now include Initialized and On Layout. Code Export Updated - We’ve made several updates to our code panel. We now support: - Pinning, both relative and to the page - Z Depth - Position offset X & Y - SwiftUI button export (UIButtons are not supported in Swift) - Interaction events like page, sheet dismiss, view, variable, appearance, device, keyboard, and location - We’ve also improved performance for the whole code panel and made overall improvements to the Hierarchy view of the code panel. Other Improvements - When designing on mobile, you can now reorder objects using the Up and Down button options in the Layers Panel. - In addition to applying native animations to an SF Symbol, the Set Symbol Effect action now allows you to change a SF Symbol’s tint color. - We improved the logic for placing new uploaded images into the canvas. UI Menu Add a familiar native menu to your prototype with UI menu! Play makes it easy to add menu items—with titles and/or icons—and corresponding actions without worrying about the design or interaction. Play’s UI menu includes both context menus (long press to show the menu) and pull down menu (tap on a native button to show the menu). Learn more here.

Create Custom Prefabs - Create easy to use interactions for your team in Play by making your own prefabs! Prefabs are pre-fabricated interactions to make prototyping more efficient and consistent. - Simply wrap interactions in a prefab, set the prefab controls, and right click to save the prefab. Other teammates can use these prefabs and edit the prefab controls you’ve allowed them to customize (i.e. Spring easing curve value, Scale value). View Enter and View Exit Triggers - A View Enter trigger fires when a user scrolls a selected target view into view. View Enter triggers pair with View Exit triggers, which fire when a user scrolls the target view out of view. Everyone who asked how to play a TikTok video when it came into view… this one’s for you! Component Event Trigger - A Component Event trigger fires when a selected component’s state changes. This trigger can be added by adding an Event trigger and setting the Type to Component. Photo Picker - Photo Picker actions natively open the device's photo library and allow the user to select a given number of photos and/or videos. Photo Picker actions save the selected photos in an array that can be used to populate a prototype. Video Event Trigger - Similar to how an Image Event trigger responds to an image event, a Video Event trigger can trigger actions based on a video event, like a video playing till the end, changing status, changing time control, or changing periodic time. Set Shadow Action - Transform object shadows with Set Shadow actions! These actions can adjust any existing shadow’s offset X & Y, blur, spread, opacity, and color. The object must already have a shadow for this action to work, even if the shadow is initially not visible. Set Sheet Detent Action - A Set Sheet Detent action changes a sheet’s height from the available detents. On the action, you can select one of the sheet’s detents and choose if the sheet will animate or snap to the detent. - This action only works when placed on an object on the sheet. Snapshot Action - A Snapshot action captures an object’s view at the current moment and allows you to use it in resulting actions. On the Snapshot action, you’ll select the object or page to screenshot. You’ll use the snapshot image in actions like Set Variable or Set Image. Code Panel Updates - The Code Panel now supports properties like scale, padding, margin, offset X & Y, clip to bounds, and variable fonts (only text) for stacks, images, texts, and SF symbols. - We’ll add additional support in each release! Improvements - Triggers and Actions Improvements - Format Number actions can output number as a variable. - Set Video actions can now use a video URL. Please note, YouTube or Vimeo links do not work; videos must be uploaded or part of an API. - Text Event triggers for editable text now have a Return Key Pressed option. - Expression Editor Improvements - Trigger states are now properties in the Expression Editor. For example, the action on a Pan trigger can print when the user starts panning, ends panning. etc. Bugs - Some actions were not able to be dragged onto an object from the Interactions Panel - The device’s clipboard property in the Expression Editor did not work on the SIM - Visually, actions on component instance’s condition nodes appeared incorrect - Text size properties were able to use percent values - Spring and Cubic Bezier easing curves displayed incorrectly on Set Image actions - Set Image action transitions were not working on View Events - Snapshot didn’t work with Open Page > Full Screen actions - Undo did not revert BG Color or alpha value changes - Undo added extra padding when used to turn a nav bar back on - Recently created projects were opened in a duplicate editor - The in-app bug report did not display a projects list
