Pika 2.0.2 makes picked colours match their source. Colours now read in sRGB by default, so a hex you pick matches the one in your CSS or Figma, and a new "Colors don't match?" window works out which colour space a value came from when they differ. Help now explains the basics, from contrast to colour spaces, and Pika now speaks Persian. New features • Colors don't match?: pick a colour, enter the value you expected in any format (hex, RGB, HSL, HSB, OpenGL, Lab or OKLCH), and Pika shows which colour space reads it back and offers to switch to it. It's in the Help menu and in Settings. • Help basics: short explanations of foreground and background, why contrast matters, WCAG and APCA, the pickers, editing values and colour spaces. • Persian: Pika is now available in Persian, thanks to @aliafshany. Updates and bug fixes • sRGB by default: picked hex values now match CSS, Figma and most design tools. If you'd chosen your display's own profile, it becomes Match display, which follows the display you pick on. Your history keeps its colours. • Colour space setting: now its own section in Settings, with a short note on what each choice is for. • Display P3 copies: in Display P3, CSS hex and RGB copy as color(display-p3 …), because browsers read a plain hex as sRGB. The copy example in Settings shows what you'll get. • Pro picker accuracy: on displays in HDR mode, picks no longer read about 10% dark (macOS 15 and later), and colours at the edge of your display's range read the same as the system picker. • History: keeps its colours when you change colour space, and clearing it keeps the colours you're working with. • Colour names: the list bundled for offline use is up to date, with 5,000 names. Pika 2.0.1 keeps wide-gamut colours exactly as you enter them, fixes picking on a second display, and tidies up a handful of small things in the colour values and buttons. NEW • Wide-gamut colours: Lab and OKLCH values outside sRGB are now kept exactly as you type them, instead of being snapped to the nearest sRGB colour. On a Display P3 screen you'll see more of them, and a warning icon explains when your display can't show a colour as itself. FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS • The Pro picker now picks on every display, not just your main one. • Cancelling a pick with Escape now puts the colour value back along with the swatch. • Clicking into a colour value no longer shrinks its text. • Clicking anywhere else in the window now deselects a colour value you're editing. • Copy and the system colour picker appear when you hover over the colour values, and Swap when you hover over the swatches. • Button labels appear after a second, then follow straight away as you move between buttons. • The Swap icon now turns once per click. Pika 2.0 is the biggest release so far. There's a brand new colour picker built from scratch, with a loupe that magnifies the pixels under your cursor and shows contrast and colour names live as you move. Colour values can now be clicked, typed, scrubbed and stepped with the arrow keys. Names come from color.pizza, wide-gamut colours stay true in Display P3, and a new first-run setup gets everything configured. NEW FEATURES • The Pro picker: a new colour picker, built from the ground up. A magnified loupe shows the exact pixel under your cursor, with contrast and colour names updating live. Arrow keys nudge a pixel at a time (hold ⇧ for ten), Return commits, and Escape cancels. It's opt-in and needs Screen Recording permission. The macOS sampler is still there as the Basic picker. • Loupe themes: choose Lens, Badge or Card in Settings to change how the loupe shows its readouts. • Editable colour values: click any readout to type a value, or paste a hex (with or without #, including 3-digit shorthand). Drag or two-finger scroll to scrub a component. ↑/↓ step values, with ⇧ for bigger steps and ⌥ for finer ones. Escape reverts, and everything can be undone with ⌘Z. • Colour names from color.pizza: choose from a range of name lists that refresh on their own. A bundled list keeps names working offline. • First-run setup: a welcome screen for setting your global shortcuts, choosing a picker, granting permissions and turning on launch at login. • Pick-pair shortcut: pick a foreground and background in one go with ⌥⌘D. • Show Pika (⌘0): a new Window menu item brings the main window back after you've closed it. ⌘N works too. • A new Refraction app icon on macOS 27, thanks to Alexander Käßner. • Copy as text and Copy as JSON now include LAB and every other colour format. UPDATES AND BUG FIXES • Wide-gamut colours are no longer clipped to sRGB. With Display P3 selected, vivid colours keep their exact values. • Long colour values wrap instead of being cut off. • OpenGL and SwiftUI values show at most 4 decimal places, so the readout, the editor and Copy all agree. • Text drawn over a colour picks black or white by WCAG contrast throughout the app. • APCA contrast is calculated in sRGB, so it agrees with WCAG whatever colour space you've chosen. • Better VoiceOver support, with labels on every button and control. • Everything new is translated into German, Spanish, French, Croatian, Japanese, Polish, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. • Fixed Pika's window not coming back after closing it in some Dock and picking setups. • Fixed the system colour picker not appearing when Pika was in the background. • Fixed copy, pick and swap doing nothing in popover mode until the popover had been opened once. • Fixed an invalid hex string crashing Pika. • Fixed Cmd+Tab while a pick is in progress, plus a handful of smaller visual fixes. This release is all about how Pika's window behaves. You can now control the window's shadow — keep it, hide it only while picking, or turn it off entirely so it can't bleed into the colours you pick nearby — and Pika can shrink far smaller than before, adapting what it shows as it gets compact. Pika 1.8.0 introduces a new menu bar popover mode, contrast picking with support for both the WCAG and APCA standards at once, and a redesigned Liquid Glass app icon for macOS's latest look — along with a handful of palette and window quality-of-life fixes. Japanese localization — Pika now supports 日本語, bringing the total to 9 languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Croatian, Japanese, Polish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. This one's a big one! Pika now supports named palettes, so you can save, rename, and switch between colour collections with a tab bar and keyboard shortcuts. There's also a brand new colour preview pill — a little floating "Aa" that shows your foreground colour on your background colour. Toggle it with P! Color history has arrived. Every pair of colors you pick is now saved in a fancy scrolling drawer — just tap any chip to instantly restore both colors. Right-click for even more power: apply just the foreground, just the background, swap and apply, or clear your history entirely. The active chip even glows when your live eyedroppers match a saved entry. Everyone wins. I also completely rebuilt the URL scheme. There are now 12 pika:// triggers for setting colors, controlling the history drawer, opening windows, resizing, and forcing light or dark appearance — perfect for power users, automation nerds, and Shortcuts enthusiasts. A brand new Help view puts every keyboard shortcut, copy format, and URL trigger in one place. No more guessing. Oh, and I fixed a sneaky color accuracy bug where picked colors could drift by 1–3 values per channel depending on your display profile. Your colors are now pixel-perfect, every time. Also new: OKLCH and LAB values no longer pad with trailing zeros. Pika now surfaces in Spotlight. The status bar menu got a full keyboard shortcut overhaul. Chinese localization is fully up to date. The latest version of Pika introduces a new feature that provides visual confirmation when you pick a color.
