Interchanger (formerly PT Reaper Converter) transfers full sessions between Avid Pro Tools (PTX), Cockos Reaper (RPP), Steinberg Cubase (CPR) and Nuendo (NPR) — any direction. No Wine, no DAW licenses required.
The source format is auto-detected: drop any of the four session files and pick the target. Audio, MIDI, video, surround, automation and timeline structure travel together.
WHAT CONVERTS
- Tracks & mixer — MIDI tracks, audio tracks up to 7.1.2; summing groups (PT Routing Folders ↔ Reaper folder buses ↔ Cubase Group Channels); FX returns; output buses created with correct widths; sends with level, pan, mute and their automation
- Clips — position, length, static and dynamic clip gain, mute, names, colors; fades and crossfades with curve shape, skew and crossfade midpoint
- Automation — volume, pan and mute lanes in every direction
- Surround panning — the Pro Tools panner ↔ ReaSurroundPan ↔ Cubase/Nuendo VST MultiPanner: channel positions including independently placed L/R, divergence, Center %, LFE level and height (Z), static values and automation lanes, byte-calibrated against reference projects
- MIDI — notes, controllers, pitch bend, program change, aftertouch, SysEx, per-track channel, pooled (ghost) parts
- Comping — Pro Tools playlists ↔ Reaper takes and item lanes ↔ Cubase/Nuendo Track Versions, audio and MIDI; clips inside inactive versions keep fades, crossfades, gain and mute
- Musical / tempo-locked (tick-based) tracks follow tempo and meter changes
- Timeline — markers (names and colors), the full tempo map, time signatures, session frame rate
- Video tracks with clips — referenced in place or copied into the bundle
- Routing — Pro Tools hardware outputs ↔ Reaper hardware outs; named buses in the PT I/O Setup; sub-path buses and multi-assign outputs; folder-based routing with full nesting
- Hidden and inactive tracks preserved — or skipped with a switch
MEDIA PIPELINE
- Split-mono ↔ interleaved merge, polyphonic channel mapping via iXML
- FLAC / OGG / MP3 / M4A / AAC / WavPack / AIFF sources decoded where the target needs it; sample-rate mismatches resolved to the session rate
- WAV, AIF, RF64 (>4 GB)
- Standalone (self-contained bundle) or Link (reference files in place) output modes; audio relinking across folders and drives; originals never touched
- Preflight report and a file relink dialog before every conversion
FORMATS & COMPATIBILITY
- Pro Tools sessions from roughly 2014 through 2026 read; written sessions open in Pro Tools 2022 and later
- Reaper 6 / 7
- Cubase / Nuendo: classic RIFF and the 64-bit RIF2 container read; written projects verified in Cubase 10 and Nuendo 15 (height formats open natively from Cubase Pro 12)
Free 2-minute demo on every install. The full user manual (PDF) is on the developer's website.
ROADMAP
Plug-in and virtual-instrument conversion (settings and automation) is the next release line. Edit groups and further formats are under investigation.

This update restores App Store purchase recognition and fixes a long list of conversion problems reported by users.
Purchases
• App Store purchases are recognised again. The two previous versions did not detect the purchase and left the app in the two-minute trial; this version recognises it, and Restore Purchase brings it back on another Mac signed in with the same Apple ID.
Cubase / Nuendo to Pro Tools
• Sessions that stopped with an "input assignment field is missing" error now convert: FX and Group channel inputs are identified by the channel they come from, so several inputs sharing a name no longer collide.
• Projects with a video track and an instrument track at the end of the track list convert instead of failing on the last track.
• Clips that inherited a Snap Point from the event they were split from land at the right time and keep their fades. A session could previously arrive hundreds of clips early with fades missing.
• Direct Offline Processing renders arrive with their clip-gain envelopes in place instead of seconds to minutes out of position.
• Direct Offline Processing renders relink in Pro Tools. They previously showed as missing audio files with no relink candidate, although the files were in the session's own Audio Files folder.
• Cubase projects that refused immediately with a "session could not be read" error open again.
• Inactive Track Versions parked on a track no longer land hours down the timeline, which is what made Pro Tools warn that clips lay beyond the session boundary.
Cubase 15 / Nuendo 15
• Projects saved by Cubase 15 and Nuendo 15 keep their real media. Their edit data was silently dropped, so renders never reached the media list and clips came in offline with placeholder names. They now arrive with their actual file paths and offsets.
Overlapping clips into Pro Tools
• Overlapping clips keep the positions they had in the source project; only their fades are adjusted to the crossfade rules Pro Tools can represent.
• Anything Pro Tools cannot hold, such as a clip completely covered by another, is listed in the preflight report before conversion instead of quietly disappearing.
Into Pro Tools
• Clips with a Sync Point on a tick-based (musical) track are placed correctly. With a tempo change before the clip, every clip on that track used to be drawn in the wrong place.
Pro Tools to Cubase / Nuendo
• Sessions refused with an "invalid PTX mixer state" error now open, including sessions whose mixer carries an auxiliary lane and sessions whose tracks feed three destinations at once. Clip levels on those sessions convert correctly.
• Pro Tools 12.5 sessions read fully: their buses, their clips and their per-track outputs all arrive. Before, the session either refused outright or converted to an empty timeline.
Pro Tools to Reaper
• Split-mono pairs are no longer doubled. A stereo pair arrived as two stacked mono items on the merged file, and a 5.1 set as six, which played back at the wrong level. Each now arrives as one stereo or multichannel item.
Reaper to any format
• Projects carrying multi-megabyte instrument states, such as large sampler and VE Pro templates, load in seconds. They previously took minutes and could look as if the app had stopped responding.
All formats
• Markers converted onto Pro Tools marker rulers 2 to 5 stay on their ruler when that session is read back and converted onward, instead of being flattened onto the first ruler.
• A session that declares clips but yields an empty timeline is reported as an error instead of being written out silently. A session that genuinely has audio only in the Clip List still converts, with a note saying so.

1.7.14 7月24日
**More reliable Pro Tools ↔ Nuendo / Cubase conversion**
- Fixed sessions that could fail to open in Nuendo ("created with Cubase 10.0.50") — these now open correctly.
- Fixed conversions with routing and panning that could stop with an error (the "child count" issue) — sessions with playlists and offline media now convert cleanly.
- The active playlist (comp version) of a track is now correctly preserved — no more empty active Track Versions after conversion.
**Media & offline sessions**
- Sessions referencing audio on disconnected drives now convert without failing; the media stays linked for you to relink in the target DAW.
- Better source-file identity, so media re-links correctly after glue/rename round-trips.
**MIDI carried across formats more faithfully**
- MIDI notes, controllers, SysEx and Poly Pressure preserved, with clear diagnostics where a target can't represent something.
- Shared / linked MIDI parts and Track Versions handled more accurately.
- Nuendo 15 (RIF2) MIDI reading fixed, including musical timing.
**Musical timing, markers & tempo**
- Tempo ramps and musical markers preserved across formats.
- Marker and clip timebase (musical vs. linear) kept where the target supports it.
- Range/selection markers carried through where possible.
**Tracks**
- VCA and Sampler tracks are no longer silently lost — they are carried through with a clear, named downgrade where the target DAW has no equivalent (Sampler becomes an Instrument track keeping its MIDI).
- Unsupported track types now show a clear message instead of being silently turned into audio.
**Video**
- Four-format video handling expanded; mixed audio+video Reaper tracks split cleanly into separate Video and Audio tracks.
**Preflight & stability**
- A clearer, calmer preflight report (Automatic / Compatibility / Must-fix) replaces the old generic error dialog.
- Missing or offline media never blocks conversion.
- Reaper extensions now correctly find the app after the Interchanger rename (fixes "PT Reaper Converter not found").
1.7.13 7月21日
MIDI now round-trips cleanly between Pro Tools and Cubase/Nuendo: playlists and Track Versions transfer both ways with notes intact in every version, and Instrument tracks stay Instrument tracks. Crossfades render correctly in Cubase/Nuendo. Plus fixes to MIDI clip lengths, stereo surround-pan, and hidden/inactive tracks.
1.7.12 7月18日
PT Reaper Converter is now Interchanger — same app, same license, nothing to re-enter. The new name reflects the new scope: four DAW formats instead of two.
NEW: Steinberg Cubase (.cpr) and Nuendo (.npr) — read and write. Any of the four formats now converts to any other:
- Tracks, Group Channels, FX Channels, output buses and sends
- Clips with gain, mute, fades and crossfades — curve shapes and midpoint included
- Surround panner ↔ VST MultiPanner, byte-calibrated: positions (incl. independent L/R channels), divergence, Center %, LFE and height — static and automated
- MIDI including SysEx and ghost parts; Track Versions ↔ playlists / lanes (audio and MIDI, with fades and crossfades inside inactive versions)
- Markers, full tempo map, time signatures, session frame rate, video
- Media pipeline: split-mono merge, format decode, sample-rate conversion
Also in this release:
- Input auto-detection for all four formats and a Convert-to selector
- Preflight warnings appear before converting and re-evaluate when you switch the target
- Session info shown for every input format
- New app icon
- Demo mode now limits video and MIDI clips on the new routes too
1.7.11 7月16日
A large fidelity and stability pass over the whole converter.
• Routing: parallel hardware feeds now become proper Pro Tools multi-assign outputs; Reaper folder children route to the correct sub-path of their parent bus; a new Hardware Output Buses toggle.
• Panning & sends: Reaper track-to-track sends convert to Pro Tools sends A–J with volume/pan/mute automation; stereo width becomes PT dual pans; surround divergence follows the final panner format.
• Track colours rebuilt on measured ground truth — track and clip colours survive the round trip far more accurately.
• Tracks: hidden tracks convert both ways; new Skip Hidden / Skip Inactive options; sessions no longer open with every track selected.
• MIDI tracks open in Clips view; MIDI alternate playlists convert both directions.
• Fades: crossfade slope and skew are written; fractional fade curves are preserved; overlapping fades no longer make Pro Tools drop clips.
• Critical fix: 23.976 fps is now written with the correct code.
• Video clips are clamped to their real source length; session-start timecode is preserved again.
1.7.7 7月14日
Reaper sends now convert to Pro Tools sends. Track-to-track sends (receives) become Pro Tools send slots A-J with level, pan, mute and their automation; send destinations become matching buses.
Hardware output buses with a toggle. Reaper tracks routed straight to hardware outputs become named hardware buses in the Pro Tools I/O Setup. Switch "Hardware Output Buses" off in the Track Data filter to get plain internal buses instead — the session then opens on any machine with no I/O warnings.
Parent-channel routing becomes sub-paths. A track feeding specific channels of its folder (say 3-4 of a 5.1 bus) now routes to a matching sub-path on the parent bus (C+LFE), with its stereo placement carried into the Pro Tools pan knobs — the LFE-group workflow converts intact.
Static mixer state arrives exactly as set. Pan knob positions, send levels, send pans and send mutes now show correctly on converted Pro Tools tracks.
Hidden and inactive tracks. Hidden Pro Tools tracks arrive hidden in Reaper and inactive tracks arrive muted — or skip either kind with the new Skip Hidden / Skip Inactive switches. Hidden Reaper tracks convert hidden to Pro Tools, with a skip switch too.
Crossfades keep their midpoint. A crossfade with a shifted transition point (skew) now sounds identical after conversion, in both directions, including short crossfades.
MIDI playlists convert in both directions: Pro Tools alternate playlists become Reaper fixed lanes on MIDI tracks and back.
1.7.6 7月10日
- Pro Tools tracks routed to physical hardware outputs now convert to matching direct hardware outs in Reaper — console and multi-output monitoring sessions (VENUE and similar) arrive playing exactly as they did in Pro Tools instead of collapsing into a single track.
- An output path carrying a Pro Tools Master Fader becomes a Reaper folder track with the fader's level and volume automation, so the real gain stage survives the conversion.
- Reaper to Pro Tools: comped takes land correctly — the lane you hear in Reaper becomes the main playlist in Pro Tools, with all other lanes as alternate playlists.
- Pooled (ghost) MIDI items are fully supported, long MIDI clips keep their exact length, and a MIDI track keeps its position in the track list.
- Fixed a session-structure bug where a MIDI track in the middle of a session could duplicate one track, hide another and shift clips by one track in Pro Tools.
- Playlist and duplicate track names now use clean Pro Tools style suffixes ("Solo.2" instead of numeric codes).
- The update dialog gained a What's New button linking to this changelog.
1.7.5 7月4日
Reaper comping now converts to Pro Tools playlists: fixed item lanes and multiple takes become playlists on the same track — the active lane or take plays on the main playlist, empty named lanes carry over, and takes of mixed channel formats split per format track.
New Track Data filter for the Reaper to Pro Tools direction: choose whether lanes and takes expand into playlists, plus markers and tempo map. Each direction remembers its own settings.
Playlist fixes in both directions: same-position clips on different playlists are no longer lost, every clip lands on its own lane, tracks with more than ten playlists attach all of them, and playlist clips always reference their own source files.
Fixed: in sessions referencing more than 256 audio files, clips of offline files could link to the wrong source and be trimmed on open.
Fixed: microscopic fade remnants from Reaper edits no longer produce invalid fades.
Duplicate track and playlist names are renamed for Pro Tools and reported in the preflight; free item positioning tracks with overlapping clips get a clear warning.
Bars|Beats and time-based markers keep their timebase in both directions (from 1.7.3)
1.7.4 7月3日
PT Reaper Converter v1.7.2
- MIDI tracks convert both ways (Reaper ↔ Pro Tools), including sessions that mix audio and MIDI.
- Musical / tempo-locked (tick-based) clips, plus tempo and meter changes, are preserved in both directions.
- Bars|Beats (musical) and absolute markers now convert both ways with correct timebase, mixed sessions split onto separate ruler lanes.
- Pro Tools markers now import correctly via File → Import → Session Data.
- Fixed the session frame rate being read incorrectly on large-I/O sessions (e.g. big live-console recordings).
- Offline video clips now convert instead of being dropped.
- Clip boundaries land at exact sample positions.
- Removed a false "overlapping items" warning on clips that only share a crossfade.
- Removed a false surround-format warning on valid 7.1.2 / Atmos ReaSurroundPan tracks.
- Fixed sessions that could convert to an empty Reaper project (including some AAF-derived sessions).
- Improved handling of older Pro Tools (2020.x) sessions.
- Exported sessions no longer embed an internal developer path.
1.7.3 7月1日
This update improves Pro Tools to Reaper conversion accuracy and reliability. Clip gain is now correct on sessions that contain clips with duplicate names. Sessions whose audio is spread across multiple folders or drives link more reliably. WavPack (.wv) audio is now supported during conversion. The app also warns you before converting clips that use features it cannot fully preserve, such as reversed clips, phase-inverted clips, or stretch markers. Plus a range of stability and correctness fixes.
1.7.1 6月15日
Reaper sessions whose audio lives in several different folders, or across different drives — a shared sound library on another disk, a separate rendered or
bounced folder, your project media — now relink correctly in Pro Tools. Every file is found by its real path. Files that are offline at conversion time
keep their paths, and any file you relink yourself is written into the converted session.
Markers carry over to Pro Tools with their names and colours.
A Reaper master track now becomes a Pro Tools master routing folder, including stereo masters.
Surround panning (ReaSurroundPan) keeps its level — tracks no longer come through about 3 dB quieter than intended.
Large sessions convert faster, and the app stays responsive while it scans your files.
Added a Copy File Name button to the Relink dialog, along with a number of stability and correctness fixes.
1.7.0 6月5日

1.6.1 5月30日
Reaper → Pro Tools: app no longer freezes when converting a project that has a video track. On systems with limited free disk space or RAM, the app could appear to hang for minutes after the user clicked Convert. The video probe now reads only what it needs from the source file instead of loading the full video into memory.
1.5.1 5月7日
Version 1.5.0 is the first release with bidirectional conversion. Reaper sessions can now be converted to Pro Tools, not just the other way around.
REAPER → PRO TOOLS — NEW
- Audio, Folder and Video tracks (tracks receiving sends become Pro Tools Aux Input tracks automatically) — with names, colors, solo, mute, solo safe, comments
- Clips: positions, lengths, source offsets, fades and crossfades (with shape mapping), names, colors, mute state, static and dynamic clip gain
- Routing: folder structure, bus auto-creation, multichannel routing, output bus, surround input and output formats up to 5.1
