Makes reviews quick / easy

I like this app because it breaks the kanji/vocab down into manageable chunks of 4. Design and feel is good as well.

Only request is to put the review buttons on the first screen when opening the app, so I can just open the app and review everything. Right now I have to click into a few menus before the review buttons show up.

Also I would like to be able to write kanji when they are introduced, but not in reviews. If that option were here it would be great.

Wrong pronunciation and esoteric meanings

I really wanted to like this app because it is really simple to use and the combination of reading, writing and hearing makes it easier to remember kanji.
HOWEVER, it is difficult to trust this app because there are alot of glaring errors in pronunciation and word meanings. For example, every month,「毎月」is read as 「マイツキ」yet this app insists it is 「マイゲツ」which is actually a very common mistake when starting to learn Japanese. This app seems to suffer from these kinds of rule exceptions as it also misreads 「毎年」as 「マイネン」instead of 「マイトシ」. Then there is this weird mispronunciation of 「二十日」. Instead of 「ハツカ」, it is read aloud as 「わつか」. I was so surprised I thought I was mishearing it but I think the author is using an automated speech synthesis service like Google because Google translate somehow also performs the same mispronunciation.
Another dealbreaker is that sometimes this app will present some obscure and esoteric meaning of the kanji instead of a more simple and commonly used one. For example, kan,「漢」 seen in words like 「漢字」 is often used to mean of Chinese origin or related to China. But this app chose to translate this as “a man’s man” with the reading 「オトコ」 which would confusing because at the N4 level, this would readily be confused with the more common 「男」 for man.
Because of these occasional errors, it is disappointing because it is difficult to trust that this app is giving the right information. And this trust is critical especially when learning a foreign language. The only reason I caught these errors is because I started from the easiest level and decided to review levels that I already have learned.

Useful...

...but I agree with user kentwait’s review: it’s hard to trust this app.

I’ve been living in Japan for years (I’ve been to a language school here for a couple of years and use Japanese daily for work and at home) and downloaded this app for quick daily reviews.

It does the trick most of the time, but some of the definitions/readings are either so obscure or ambiguous that it makes no sense to learn them that way, or just plain wrong (tried sending feedback a few months back, saw no return or action of any kind taken).

If you already know Japanese and you can tell right from wrong, it’s probably safe-ish to use this app.

If you’re downloading this hoping to learn new words, tread carefully.
