In times of rampant supression of free speech where platforms are being turned in to deserts of intolerance, Substack is a refreshing oasis for the liberty of minds❣️

I am grateful for the openness of the Substack platform to make available so many different viewpoints on so many different subjects. Truly a fantastic resource and a great support for freedom of speech. HOWEVER, the user interface is quite non-intuitive, and I have not been able to find a list of my reading history, nor have I been able to return to articles currently being read if I temporarily leave the app in the background to search for a term on Google using Safari. Upon reopening the Substack app, I have completely lost the article I was reading, and without a reading history, only a miracle can bring it back. Also, new postings are displayed in a list as banners on the iPad login screen, but they just scroll on and on with older ones disappearing as soon as clicked on whether immediately read or not---not sure how such items are tracked (perhaps on the iPad side), but it would be nice to have that info available within the Substack app. There are other aggravations, such as no tutorial for using the app, but at the bare minimum, an explicit button or something to bring up the reading history would be wonderful.

I’ve just started and there’s too much I don’t understand yet to make a good assessment. But I do notice it is not localized to Asian languages. My iPhone is set to Japanese mode but when I joined Substack everything was in Spanish mode. I thought OK,, cool, I need to practice my Spanish. But when I checked the language options, I was mildly shocked to see that new Japanese nor most other widely spoken, Asian languages were available. Hmmm. Yes, there are people from many Asian countries on the Substack, but it seems most everything related to Asia — even in the widest sense — is aimed at Westerners.
