Notes is the best place to jot down quick thoughts or to save longer notes filled with checklists, images, web links, scanned documents, handwritten notes or sketches. And with iCloud, it’s easy to keep all your devices in sync, so you’ll always have your notes with you.
Features
Powerful note-taking
• Add attachments — PDFs, photos, maps, web links and more.
• Record and transcribe audio directly into a note.
• Scan paper documents with the built-in document scanner.
• Secure sensitive or personal data in a locked note.
• Create checklists. Make a shopping list, a wish list or a to-do list, then tap to tick off items as you go.
• Apply different text styles, such as heading or body, bulleted lists, highlighting and more.
• Tap next to section headers to reveal a chevron to collapse text.
• Add tables to quickly organise information.
• Use your finger, or Apple Pencil on a compatible iPad, to sketch directly in your note or an inline PDF. Choose from a variety of brush styles and colours, and add lines and grids to a note for easier writing and drawing.
• Take a Quick Note without opening the app — add Quick Note to your Control Centre, swipe up from the bottom-right corner with an Apple Pencil on iPad, or use Fn-Q on a keyboard.
Organise and search
• Search for text in notes, your handwriting, and even inside scanned documents and photos like receipts or bills.
• Link from one note to another to connect ideas, content or any information. Try typing >> for a shortcut to add links while writing in your note.
• Keep your notes in folders and subfolders, or add tags to categorise them. Type or handwrite tags directly in your note — like #cooking or #expenses.
• Automatically organise notes in a Smart Folder based on filters. Create rules to filter for Date Created, Checklists, Attachments and more.
Collaborate
• Collaborate on entire shared folders or on specific shared notes.
• Mention friends to notify them of important updates and link them directly to a shared note.
• See what others added to a shared note while you were away with Activity view, a day-to-day list summary of activity from each collaborator.
Notes for Apple Watch
• View all of your iCloud notes right from your wrist; you can also pin notes, complete checklist items, or create new notes with dictation or Siri.
Certain features are available only in selected languages and regions.
Note is a useful tool.Unfortunately, if you delete by mistake, you lose everything. Note needs to be able to preserve content.
iOS and PadOS 15 has made app unusable
antowandera
This used to be one of the reasons why I remained in the apple ecosystem. You would put down notes and rely on it to sync across all your apple devices. With the latest updates, I have lost over 600 notes that were on my iPads and iPhones. The only place where they still are is on the macbook. I have done everything they advise to do from logging out icloud on all devices to hard resetting the devices all to no avail. In short, Notes has simply stopped working. All the devices are running the latest software updates and versions of Notes but interestingly Quick Notes only appear on some and not all devices yet its the same version of the app with the same exact settings!
Lags Extremely & Overheats Very Much.
Jonathan-AD4K
I have an iPad Air 6th Gen M2, barely two months old. Whenever I use the notes app, i barely write for fifteen minutes before my iPad overheats seriously, to the point the screen feels like it’s burning. The battery drains extremely fast as well, sometimes losing 50% in 3 minutes. The writing starts to lag, with words appearing after i have already finished writing with the pen. This isn’t feasible at all. I am on the latest iOS update (iOS 18.2). This needs to be sorted out ASAP.
Glitches up

In 16.2 the app causes the iPad to heat up. The lag when writing is annoying. This lag sometimes doesn’t even translate to a written note. It could sometimes flash notes previously written in a blank page, overlaying wheat you’re trying to write that just won’t be written. The new additions, fountain pen and what not are fantastic. And I am looking forward to using them in a more bug free update.
