draftwriter run! is a writing app for first drafts. Staying focused is hard. Especially when you’re writing a first draft. You look at a sentence you’ve already written, decide you don’t like it, and fixing it is just so easy. So I made this. draftwriter run! keeps the line you’re writing in the center of the screen. The lines you’ve already written fade into the background. That makes it easier to focus on the sentence in front of you. Instead of constantly going back and rewriting what’s already there, you can keep moving forward. But if you have a mouse or trackpad, going back would still be easy, right? So moving backward is keyboard-only. There’s no scrolling either, so you can’t casually skim through what you’ve already written. You keep your hands on the keyboard and keep going. Of course, even that might not be enough. The arrow keys are still there. That’s why there’s RUN! mode. Moving forward is easy. You write. Going back? That’s easy too. You delete. And other than that, there is no going back. So you keep writing forward. Until the draft is done. Of course, after writing like this for a while, you’ll probably want to see what you’ve written. That’s when you can look through it. With Review. But just as the name suggests, you can only look. No editing. No selecting. If you want to write again, you have to return to the writing screen. Here, you simply look at your draft. That’s what RUN! is. Oh, one more thing. If you stop writing for a minute, a timer appears at the bottom of the screen. It doesn’t show how long you’ve been writing. It shows how long you’ve paused in order to write. And after all that moving forward, stopping, thinking, and writing, it would be pretty awful to lose the draft. So while you write, RUN keeps a recovery copy every two minutes. It saves one more when you close the app, too. Saving the actual file is up to you. Saving it under another name, too. That part is your call. But RUN tries its best not to forget what you were writing. So instead of worrying about saving, just keep writing. Of course, you should probably save it once when you first start.
