You can now reply to specific messages in group chats and DMs. Swipe a message to reply. Group chats are our first community feature on Bluesky, and we're just getting started.

We have a big update for you this week! Group chats are here. You can now start a private chat with up to 50 people. Make an invite link, drop it on Bluesky, share it anywhere. Your group, your people. We also added a new share button to your profile. Tap it to get a personalized QR code that links straight to you. Stick it anywhere and people can scan it to find you on Bluesky.

You can now attach up to 10 photos in your posts! We heard your feedback: any posts with up to 4 photos will appear in the original grid layout. Posts with more than 4 photos will appear in a new-and-improved carousel with numbering badges so it's clear how many photos are on each post.

This release features a better way to discover and share articles, blog posts, and newsletters across the Atmosphere via new, dynamic @standard.site link cards. Participating publishers and websites (such as leaflet.pub, pckt.blog, and offprint.app) now support these new link cards when shared on Bluesky. Also included in this release: added support for “going live” with YouTube, Substack, and Beehiiv; improved GIF search; a refreshed photo viewer; and lots of bug fixes.

We've made some improvements to photos: posts with multiple photos now appear in a carousel, and larger photo sizes are now supported so you can show off your artwork or photography in all its glory.

Better recommendations for who to follow, plus fixes to search, feed refreshing, and posting to make things run more smoothly.

Bot labels are here. Users who run an automated account can now add a badge to their profile so others know what's a bot and what's not. We also snuck in some small updates like improved suggestions for who to follow, better audio quality in videos, and various bug fixes.

We've updated our welcome screen with some fresh artwork by @odpomery.bsky.social, an artist from the Bluesky community. Plus, we improved how GIFs display in posts so that they appear more like classic GIFs (autoplaying without sound) and not like videos. Social media used to be about connecting with friends. Somewhere along the way, that got lost in the noise of viral content and algorithms. It's time to bring friends back. Today, we're introducing Find Friends — a new way to find the people you know on Bluesky with your phone contacts. Most apps import your contacts knowing phone numbers are vulnerable to enumeration attacks — even with encryption, the limited set of possible numbers makes them easy to guess through brute force. We weren't willing to accept that risk, so we developed a new approach that's fundamentally more secure and gives you full control. - Bluesky asks everyone to verify their phone number before using Find Friends, proving you own the number you're using. - We also require that all matches are mutual, so someone will only match with you if both of you have each other in your contacts. - Plus, instead of storing phone numbers as plain text like other apps do, we encode phone number pairs, protecting them from enumeration. We hope Find Friends makes it easier for you to, well, find your friends on Bluesky!
