Janggi is Korea's national chess — and this is the friendliest way to learn it.
Two armies of sixteen face each other across nine lines and ten ranks. The chariots rake open files, the cannons leap over a screen to strike, and the generals never leave their palaces. If you play chess you will feel at home in five minutes; if you don't, the built-in course will get you there anyway.
BUILT FOR NEWCOMERS
• An illustrated tutorial covers every piece with its own diagram — no prior knowledge, no Korean, no Chinese characters required.
• Choose chess-style figurine pieces, the traditional 楚漢 characters, or both at once, so you can learn the characters while you play.
• Legal moves are shown as you touch a piece. Take a move back whenever you like.
A REAL OPPONENT
• Five levels, from Beginner to Master, built on a genuine alpha-beta search engine — not a table of canned replies.
• The weaker levels play plausible human mistakes rather than random moves, so a win at Beginner still feels earned.
• Master level searches millions of positions and will punish anything loose.
HINTS THAT TEACH
Tap Hint and the engine shows you its move — then explains in plain English why it works. "The Chariot is undefended, so this is free material." Over a few games you stop needing the hint.
AUTHENTIC RULES
• All four horse-and-elephant setups, chosen independently by each player, just as in a real game.
• Palace diagonals, cannon screens, the pass move, and janggi's point scoring with Han's 1.5 point handicap.
• The traditional bikjang draw is included as an option for purists.
