OmniTAK — ATAK-Style Tactical Awareness for iOS
OmniTAK brings the power and familiarity of ATAK to your iPhone and iPad. Built with a high-performance Rust core and native iOS interface, OmniTAK delivers real-time situational awareness with the tactical UI that operators know and trust.
Whether you're coordinating search and rescue, managing field teams, supporting emergency response, or training for tactical scenarios, OmniTAK provides blue force tracking, collaborative mapping, and secure communications—without being locked into a single server or network.
ATAK-FAMILIAR INTERFACE
OmniTAK mirrors the ATAK experience that millions of operators have trained on. The professional tactical theme, navigation drawer, bottom toolbar, and status bar feel immediately familiar. If you know ATAK, you know OmniTAK.
Satellite, hybrid, and standard map views powered by native MapKit deliver smooth performance. Color-coded CoT markers display friendly, hostile, unknown, and neutral units in real-time.
MULTI-SERVER ARCHITECTURE
OmniTAK was built for multi-agency coordination and federated networks.
Configure unlimited TAK server connections. Monitor connection status in real-time. Bridge jurisdictions during disaster response, maintain redundant connectivity, or aggregate feeds from multiple command posts—OmniTAK connects you to every network that matters.
Supports TCP and UDP with optional TLS encryption.
SECURE CERTIFICATE MANAGEMENT
OmniTAK stores all client certificates in the iOS Keychain with hardware-backed protection. Import from .pem, .crt, .key, .p12, and .pfx files, or enroll directly from your TAK server using username/password authentication.
View certificates with validity status and expiration tracking. Full mutual TLS authentication keeps your tactical data encrypted end-to-end.
TACTICAL TOOLS
Draw circles and polygons to mark areas of interest, search zones, or operational boundaries. All drawings persist across sessions with high-visibility tactical colors.
Broadcast your position with configurable metadata. Filter units by affiliation for cleaner operational pictures. Navigate with bearing and distance tools built for tactical operations.
EXTENSIBLE PLUGIN SYSTEM
OmniTAK features a secure plugin architecture for extending functionality. Plugins run in sandboxed contexts with permission-based API access. Create custom CoT handlers, map overlays, UI components, and network integrations.
INTEROPERABILITY
Works with TAK Server, FreeTAKServer, Taky, OpenTAKServer, and any CoT-compatible infrastructure. Full interoperability with ATAK, WinTAK, iTAK, and WebTAK clients.

더 보기 Off-grid mesh and situational-awareness improvements from tester feedback.
Mesh and Meshtastic
• Dropped markers now share over the mesh. Points you place on the map reach other OmniTAK devices over Meshtastic or MeshCore, with no TAK server required.
• Manage your Meshtastic radio from inside OmniTAK: view, create, and share channels by QR, and set the broadcast interval, role, and rebroadcast scope.
• Standard TAKPacket support for interoperability with ATAK's Meshtastic plugin.
• Connecting to a radio no longer hangs. It now times out cleanly so you can retry.
Situational awareness
• See how old a contact's position is, and whether it arrived over the server or the mesh.
Interface
• In landscape, the toolbar no longer covers most of the map.
Fixes
• Certificate enrollment now reads the server's TLS config correctly no matter what order the fields are in, fixing failed or mis-identified enrollments on some TAK servers.

Drawing and markers
- Edit placed shapes on both the 2D map and 3D globe: drag to reposition, move individual vertices, and resize circle radius.
- Full drawing on the 3D globe, with create, select, edit, and delete plus live feedback as you draw.
- Your own marker now supports tap-to-select, a heading arrow, and a custom icon, and your heading is shared over CoT.
- Lasso select grabs any line or polygon it crosses or overlaps, not only ones centered inside the loop.
Connecting to TAK servers
- Scan a TAK or ATAK enrollment QR code to connect, with no manual server entry.
Drone and UAS
- Live drone video over UDP (H.264) in a picture-in-picture window pinned above the map.
Icons and symbology
- Import custom ATAK icon set packs and use them across your markers.
- Larger bundled TAK icon suite.
Maps and orientation
- North-up lock and a corner compass that rotates with the map. Tap it to snap back to north.
- Keep-screen-on now holds the display awake during an operation.
- Switching between 2D and 3D is smoother, with the 3D camera starting from your current 2D view.
Overlays and coordinates
- KML points now show as labeled yellow pushpins.
- The coordinate readout has a red frame, matching ATAK.
Chat
- Dropped markers no longer clutter your contact list, and stale participants are cleared automatically.
Settings
- Reworked About screen that shows the real app version with links to the site, docs, and source.

What's New in 2.33.0
Drone tools (UAS)
• Connect to MAVLink drones and watch live video straight from the aircraft.
Drone detection
• Pair an external Remote ID sensor over Bluetooth to catch WiFi drone broadcasts your phone can't pick up on its own. Detections show up as live tracks on the map and share to your TAK servers.
3D globe
• Choose your base map right from the Layers panel: Satellite, Hybrid, Standard, or Photorealistic 3D.
• Faster, sharper loading and much better reliability. The globe recovers on its own if it ever drops, and falls back to the 2D map if it can't load.
Performance and stability
• Smoother map with less lag on busy servers, plus a range of map, drawing, and stability fixes.
2.33.0 5월 31일
• Create missions on the fly. Settings → MISSION → Create new mission. Name it, describe it, pick the server, and the mission appears on every connected EUD.
• FEMA/incident-command marker palette for SAR teams. Six quick-drop icons in the marker drawer: fire, medical, law enforcement, helicopter LZ, shelter, command post. Color-tinted and tappable.
Improved (since 2.28.0)
• Tap a marker's name label — not just the outline — to open the context menu. Works for markers, lines, polygons, and circles.
• Drawing labels, in-progress shapes, and measurement waypoints stay rock-steady while you pan and zoom. No more flicker.
• Contacts open instantly. Send Message goes to the right direct-message thread. Show on Map and Navigate to Contact actually move the map (and the 3D globe) now.
• Mission Sync shows a clear "Checking servers" status on first open instead of a blank flash.
Built for SAR. Tested with TAK Server, OpenTAKServer, and stagtak. As always — feedback welcome on Discord and GitHub.

Meshtastic mesh networking
- Connect to Meshtastic radios over Bluetooth
- See mesh nodes on the map and share your position off grid
- Paired radios reconnect automatically, no re-pairing each time
3D globe now matches the 2D map
- Follow mode keeps you centered as you move
- Zoom, point dropping, and lasso multi-select all work on the globe
- Map layers (satellite, hybrid, streets), compass, and scale bar
Improvements
- Dropped points now land exactly on the aim crosshair
- Redesigned Tools menu for faster access
- Various stability and map fixes
2.27.0 5월 23일
Map imagery overlays — bring georeferenced imagery onto the map:
• GeoTIFF and GeoPDF
• KMZ GroundOverlay images
• MBTiles and GeoPackage (GPKG) raster tiles
Manage every overlay: show/hide, opacity, zoom-to-fit, rename, delete. Large KML files render smoothly as GPU layers.
Improved: a simpler aim-and-tap Point Dropper, and more accurate zoom-to-overlay.
2.26.0 5월 21일
v2.23.0 (26051806)
NEW — Cesium 3D map by default
The main map is now Cesium 3D (real terrain, atmosphere, perspective).
Toggle to flat Mapbox v3 in Tools if you want a 2D view. All your CoT
contacts, drawings, range rings, breadcrumbs, measurements, and
MIL-STD-2525 icons flow through the same native ↔ Cesium bridge.
ALSO — Quick Connect to official TAK Servers now works
If you tried Quick Connect against an official BBN TAK Server in 2.22.1
or earlier and got "CSR validation failed" / 500 errors, fixed. Root
cause: we were sending a country code (C=US) the server's nameEntries
policy didn't allow. We now only send fields the server's tlsConfig
declares.
WHAT TO TEST
• 3D camera: pinch, two-finger drag for pitch, double-tap to focus
• Map engine toggle in Tools (Cesium 3D ↔ Mapbox 2D) — state should persist
• Quick Connect against your TAK Server (especially official BBN servers)
• Self-signed servers: toggle "Trust Self-Signed Certificates" on
• Trusted-CA servers (Let's Encrypt, sectigo): toggle OFF
• CoT contacts, your own callsign, drawings, range rings all render in 3D
• Tools popup: tap outside dismisses, swipe-down dismisses
2.23.0 5월 19일
Lasso multi-select on the map
• New Tools tab in the bottom bar opens a small popup with Lasso Select. Long-press + drag on the map to select features inside a freehand region. The map stays visible the whole time.
• Tap the "N selected" pill for the action set:
– Add to Data Package — builds a TAK Mission Package zip
– Export as KML — OGC 2.2 file you can share or import elsewhere
– Send to Contacts — pick recipients from a picker; broadcasts the selection
– Delete — removes locally and broadcasts CoT tombstones so other clients propagate the removal
– Clear Selection
• Smarter enrollment diagnostics: when cert enrollment fails behind a reverse proxy or against an LDAP-misconfigured server, you now get specific guidance (which port, which header, what curl to run) instead of a generic "wrong port" hint.
• Bottom tab bar redesign: Tools sits next to Settings; all six destinations (Map, Chat, Servers, Mesh, Tools, Settings) are visible without a "More" overflow.
• Full i18n coverage on onboarding and Settings.
2.22.1 5월 17일
- New: lasso multi-select tool (Tools tab in bottom bar → Lasso Select). Long-press + drag on the map to select features inside a freehand region. Tap the orange "N selected" pill for follow-up actions (Bulk Delete + Clear are wired today; Data Package, Export KML, Send to Contacts surface a "coming next" notice).
- Fix: tailored troubleshooting when cert enrollment fails behind a reverse proxy. The old "wrong port" hint now walks through proxy-routing, account permissions, and server-side LDAP scenarios with a curl diagnostic to isolate.
- UI: bottom tab bar now custom (6 items visible — Map, Chat, Servers, Mesh, Tools, Settings) so Tools sits next to Settings without the "More" overflow.
2.22.0 5월 15일
What's new
• Drone detection — OmniTAK now listens for nearby drones (DJI Mavic, Skydio, Autel) broadcasting FAA Remote ID over Bluetooth. Toggle in Settings → Drone Detection → FAA Remote ID Scanner. Detected drones appear on the map as unknown-air UAS contacts with the matching multirotor or fixed-wing symbol. Default off — BLE scanning has a battery cost.
• Symbology overhaul — Contacts on the map now render as proper MIL-STD-2525 symbols matched to their CoT type (friendly/hostile/neutral/unknown × ground/air/sea) instead of plain affiliation dots. 108-entry symbol catalog shared with the Android client so symbols look identical across platforms.
• Self-position marker — Your own pip is now a friendly-combat MIL-STD frame so it reads as part of the same tactical iconography as friendly contacts. Settings → Map Overlays → Self-Position Marker can revert to the legacy bullseye if you prefer the prior look.
2.21.0 5월 13일
What's new in 2.19.0 — K9Blue SAR feedback closeout
• Lasso multi-select — new tool in the drawing cluster. Long-press + drag to draw a closed region; everything inside gets selected. Map pan/zoom stay intact in every other mode. Floating "x N selected" pill shows the count.
• Build data package in-app — Settings → MISSION → "Build data package…" Pick markers, drawings, tracks; preview the size; save to Files, share, or hand off to TAK. Manifest + CoT + KML + GPX bundled into one .zip that round-trips through other TAK clients.
• Create new mission (BETA) — Settings → MISSION → "Create new mission". Names the mission, fans it out to the connected TAK server via the Marti Mission API on 8089 mTLS (works with OpenTAKServer and TAK Server CIV). Mission appears on every peer ATAK/iTAK client. Real wire format; member picker + package attach coming next.
• FEMA / IC marker palette — new SAR-tuned symbology set in the marker drawer. Command, Medical, Aviation, Vehicles, Support categories. Drops broadcast over CoT with the right iconsetpath so ATAK/iTAK peers render the FEMA icon, not a default unknown marker.
• User map overlays (KML/KMZ) — Settings → MAP OVERLAYS → "User Overlays". Import a CalTopo or Google Earth KML and it renders as a quiet shaded layer above the basemap, below your markers. Per-overlay opacity slider and visibility toggle. GeoPDF support coming next.
Closed-test feedback addressed:
- Mission/data sync creation from the device
- FEMA / Incident Command indicators for SAR
- Lasso for fast data-package creation
- KML overlays for offline planning maps
Thanks for testing — keep the feedback coming.
