Raccoon City has seen better days. The quaint mountain town has been overrun with the living dead – and in Resident Evil 2, making it out in one piece will take guts, grit and, yes, a whole lot of brains.
This remake of the 1998 console classic has been reforged from the ground up. Running on the same engine that powered Resident Evil 7, the zombie-infested adventure starring Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy is even more beautiful – and thrilling. Here’s what to expect from this undead nightmare.

Movement matters
One of the biggest improvements? Freedom of movement! Claire and Leon no longer have to stand still when firing their weapons – they can now move at the same time. (In a nostalgic nod, you’ll still aim better if you keep your feet planted.) Just remember that sometimes the best tactic is to simply run. Whatever it takes to survive!
New views
A third-person camera view makes for a more modern – and more comfortable – experience, especially for first-time players. And the in-game map now automatically updates, letting you know right away if you haven’t scooped up all the loot in a location.
Not sure if you left some goodies behind? The red-marked room is an (un)dead giveaway.
Unmissable extras
After playing through the story as Claire, you can play it again as Leon, meeting new people and wielding a handy new weapon.
You’ll also unlock the harrowing Fourth Survivor mode, where an Umbrella agent tries to escape with a virus sample. If you manage to survive that, more surprises await!
