오랜 역사에 걸맞게 규모도 방대하여 5,800여명에 이르는 회원이 활동하고 있으며, 개인회원뿐 아니라 국책연구기관과 지방연구원, 대학의 도시계획 관련 학과가 기관회원으로 가입되어 있습니다. 전국적으로는 강원, 대전, 세종, 충청, 전북, 광주·전남, 대구·경북, 부산·울산·경남, 제주의 7개 지회가 있습니다.
대한국토·도시계획학회는 한국전쟁후 국가재건사업부터 시작하여 우리나라의 경제개발을 뒷받침하기 위한 고속도로 건설, 상업단지 조성 등 국토건설에 앞장서 왔습니다. 이와 함께 서울의 강남 개발에서부터 분당, 일산 등 수도권 신도시, 그리고 세종시와 혁신도시에 이르기까지 급속한 도시화에 따른 주택공급과 균형발전을 위한 도시개발을 주도해 왔습니다. 동시에 '난개발'을 방지하기 위하여 '선계획, 후개발'의 원칙에 입각한 국토·도시계획체제를 정립하여 자연환경 보전, 역사문화자원 보호, 환경오염 방지, 재해위험 감소 등 도시발전의 지속가능성을 확보하려는 노력을 경주해 왔습니다.
