Portrait connects a vetted community of filmmakers, department heads, funders, distributors, and more. We help creatives showcase work to the people who matter - at the right time, in the right place, without chaos of the inbox or mass social media.
- Informing our thinking: LinkedIn was built for resumes. IMDb was built as a database. We think there's a better way.
- Every Portrait member receives a portfolio, making it easy to share contact info and creative work with peers.
- Portrait is invite-only but free to join. We welcome filmmakers and industry professionals who've had a project at a major festival, on a major media platform, or in theaters.
- Industry Pocket Guides: Browse industry attendees, see portfolios of people behind the films, send messages, set meetings, and add senior contacts. See who you know on Portrait via easy phone contact sync.
- Industry Partners: We've worked with The Film Collaborative, The Gotham, Brown Girls Doc Mafia, The DPA, The DCA, Dear Producer, Film Fatales and others.

- Your newsfeed got a tune-up this week with better system posts highlighting Work of the Week and festival info.
- Searching got fuzzier and smarter with acronyms (iykyk)
- Past festivals are now more obviously over.

- You can now send a short message when you request a connection on Portrait (i.e. "We met at Sundance" or "Looking for a DP, are you free this fall?")
- We try to suggest new people to connect with at the top of your feed, but if you don't want to see our recs anymore, you can now x-out anyone you don't want to see again

Once upon a time last year
When Portrait was newly here
Everyone within the realm
Had likely met IRL
Anyone you could DM
But now our garden, though still zen,
Has grown! So do please connect
To continue your messages, direct
"But what about new friends?" you say
Never fear, because today
We give you Message-to-Connect
To send a note with your request
2.4.6 14/05/2024

- If you had trouble editing your portfolio projects, newsfeed posts, or profile, that's now fixed! Edit away, friends.

- Submit Events and Opportunities to Portrait directly from the app. Find them in your sidebar under activities.
- To keep the feed tidy, we've capped max post length and added an option to See More on longer posts.

- Navigating Portrait is breezy and unbothered thanks to our new menu. Tap the 3 horizontal lines to find quick links to festivals, new contact requests, opportunities, and more. Forgot to link your IMDb account when you signed up? You can now do that from the menu, too.
- My Contacts gets a design refresh! New filters reveal pending invitations and people in your phone that you might not have known were on Portrait
- A new pop-up modal will remind you about upcoming film festivals to ask if you're attending (but only once, we wont't bug you).
- Sign out is now under Settings
Bug Fixes:
- If you marked yourself as attending a festival, then unmarked it, sometimes we would still show you as going.

2.4.0 07/03/2024
- Within Festivals, you can now search across attendees, film titles, and events
- Having trouble logging in for the first time? You can now re-send your confirmation email to make confirming who you are faster (or log in via Apple or Google to skip this step entirely! We recommend it).
- Add multiple personal websites to your profile
Bug Fixes:
- You can now make an account if your first name is a single letter. Welcome all you J's and Q's!
- Sometimes, we used to make it look like you'd imported a contact whether or not you actually did the import (until you refreshed the page, which revealed that, of course, you hadn't). We fixed that, because frontends should tell the truth.
2.3.3 19/02/2024
- Importing your film credits got faster
- Finding people on Portrait got easier with a smoothed-out contacts sync workflow. Toggle on contact syncing and Portrait will use the contacts in your phone to identify people you may already know.
Bug Fixes:
- Events with a large number of people weren't loading properly, we fixed it
- URLs weren't formatting correctly in Around the Web, we fixed it
- Some emails had weird overlapping text, you guessed it we fixed it
