Scales are one of the most important music fundamentals. They build technique, timing, muscle memory, and understanding of key signatures. But it’s easy to practise them on autopilot without really improving, or to skip because practicing scales can be boring.
Scale Study is a focused scale practice tool for MIDI keyboard/piano players. It helps you practise scales accurately and at a tempo that reflects your real ability. Instead of guessing whether a scale was clean or fast enough, the app confirms when your playing is correct and logs the fastest accurate tempo you achieve.
Start slow with one note per beat, similar to practising with a metronome, to lock in fingerings, tone, and timing. As the scale becomes more comfortable, gradually increase the tempo. Scale Study keeps a clear record of your progress over time, so improvements in speed and accuracy are easy to see.
Scale Study is designed primarily for use with a MIDI keyboard or piano, but it also includes Practice Anywhere for times when you don’t have an instrument nearby. Practice Anywhere lets you work on tempo, timing, and consistency by tapping through scales on screen, so you can keep practising wherever you are.
You can practise major and minor scales across different keys and modes, helping you understand how scales work rather than memorising them as isolated patterns. This is useful for exam preparation, improvisation, and building stronger musical fundamentals.
