Running a bird sanctuary is hard work, and in Wingspan, it requires deep strategy and no small amount of luck too. Available on iPhone and iPad, this game follows the same rules as the eponymous board game. Link up with up to four other players or play against AI players. No cards, dice or tokens needed.
What we love: Going through the game’s beautifully illustrated bird cards feels like reading an aviary encyclopedia. Place them in the forest to gather food, in the grasslands to lay eggs or in the wetlands to draw new bird cards. Each bird has different advantages, such as needing less food or producing more eggs. Consider all these as your play in four rounds, adding up to 26 turns each. Then your final score will be tallied based on points assigned to individual birds, the number of eggs, ranks based on pre-set conditions and bonus points from bird abilities.

Quick tip: Playing is the fastest way to learn the ins and outs of the game. Once you finish the tutorial, practise on your own by playing a few matches against AI players. Keep track of the best ways to score big points and pay attention to what your opponent’s doing right – then put it all to use when you’re ready to face a human!
