If you are a beginner or someone with basic knowledge in Arabic, Mayna is designed to help you learn the language efficiently. It has been built to be as simple to use as possible.
The lessons are organized in a logical and progressive manner. In any given lesson, the concepts introduced never reference material that has not yet been covered, making the learning process natural and gap-free.
All words and sentences presented in the lessons are written with their diacritics (vowels) and accompanied by original audio recordings. In each lesson, you can also test your pronunciation of Arabic words and sentences: the app evaluates the accuracy of your speech and provides immediate feedback.
At the end of a lesson, a quiz is offered when relevant. The "Quiz" tab groups all available exercises together, while the "Profile" tab displays the full lesson tree.
Lesson Structure
The lessons are divided into two main parts:
- First part: Alphabet, letters, and core vocabulary.
- Second part: Complete sentences and conjugation of Arabic verbs in the following tenses: past, present, future, subjunctive, jussive, and imperative.
Lessons and Quizzes for Verbs
Each verb is displayed with its present-tense conjugation vowel or its fundamental verb form (essential for beginners). The conjugation quizzes, designed progressively, will help you master the conjugation of the various types of Arabic verbs. You can start with an exercise focused on a single verb type, then gradually expand to multiple categories, or even all forms. (Note: Conjugation quizzes are currently not accessible with screen readers to prevent a degraded experience).
Lessons and Quizzes for Sentences
In the sentence-focused lessons, we explain grammar using simplified language, giving you the keys to form your own constructions. The quizzes feature four different modes:
- Reading: The question is written in English; you must choose the correct answer from three options written in Arabic.
- Speaking: The question is written in English; you must pronounce it correctly in Arabic using voice recognition.
- Listening: You hear a sentence in Arabic; you must select the correct English translation from three choices.
- Writing: The question is written in English; you must transcribe it in Arabic using the built-in keyboard, which includes all diacritical signs. (To ensure the best accessibility experience, writing mode with the Arabic keyboard is intentionally disabled when a screen reader is active).
Accessibility
Mayna integrates several accessibility features to ensure an inclusive learning experience: VoiceOver (note that the built-in keyboard is not currently compatible with VoiceOver), Larger text, Dark mode, Differentiate without color, Reduce animations.
