Word First quietly blocks your most distracting apps until you spend time in Scripture. No willpower contest, no nagging — just a small commitment you make to yourself before the day starts pulling at you.
How it works:
Choose which apps to block. Set your reading length. Open the app at the time you've chosen, and a candle begins to burn while you read. When the candle goes out, your apps unlock. That's the whole mechanic.
The library:
372 carefully written devotionals across 22 topics — over a year of reading without repeats. From anxiety to identity to rest, the Word meets you where you are. Each reading carries a short reflection, a written prayer, and a "Go Deeper" study with the original Hebrew or Greek word, two commentary paragraphs, voices from historical Bible expositors, and related passages you can sit with.
Read together:
Invite up to three companions — a spouse, a friend, a small group — and see each other's candle light when you've finished the morning's reading. There's no chat, no streaks, no leaderboard. Just steady, quiet witness.
A few practices, gently offered:
- An evening lamp for a short reflection before bed
- Memorization mode with progressive word-blanks
- Saved verses and a private journal for your own reflections
- A prayer library of nearly 500 written prayers across 18 categories
- Mood-aware mornings: tell the app what's on your heart and receive a reading that meets you there
- A share-the-full-reading PDF for sending a devotional you've been moved by to someone else
- A short "emergency unlock" for the days when you really do need an app open — small, no shame, no hard limit
The things we left out, on purpose:
No streaks. No badges. No notifications nagging you. No ads. No analytics. No tracking. No data sold or shared with anyone, ever.
