A quick update to bring a more legible icon to the App Store listing.

Mastodon, now in Liquid Glass! We’ve also fixed a few crashes, turned on localization for some additional languages (including Estonian), and improved the iPad layout so that the margins are scrollable.

This version brings several improvements to the main timeline: - The post “…” menu now offers both the existing “Copy Link” option and a new “Copy” option, which will copy the text of the post now that selecting text directly from the screen is not possible. - There is a new dedicated audio player and improvements have been made to the video player. - Loading from the top and bottom should work more smoothly, and the bottom loader now has some visual feedback as you scroll to trigger it. We’ve also made big changes to the way we handle localizations, which will make the app much more flexible going forward. This may mean you see a few additional untranslated strings until our volunteer translators can catch up. Several places in the app that display lists of other accounts have been updated to match our new layout and provide more useful information.

We are excited to bring you a brand new timeline layout throughout the app with a fresh look, smoother scrolling, more responsive buttons, and rich text formatting for posts using supported html tags. - View Mastodon quote posts and compose them (when your Mastodon server supports the feature) - Notifications list is less likely to show stale data - Several crash fixes - A fix to make it less likely you’ll hit a “too many requests” error - Long poll options now wrap their text so you can read the whole thing!!!

A few fixes while work continues behind the scenes on home timeline improvements: - Navigations should no longer look broken (fixes #1448) - Editing a post now gives the same progress indication as publishing a post for the first time (filling up the button). - Efficiency improvements to avoid the “too many requests” error (fixes #1449).

A few small improvements while we work on larger changes behind the scenes… - iPad layout is better - User’s default visibility choice is now respected for boosts as well as posts - Server rule display now shows both the headline text and the additional explanations (if any), and will show rules in the user’s current preferred language setting, if translations are available.

Updates to notifications, new account registration, and more. Notifications: - Push notifications should work more consistently. - Notification filter options offered now match the web interface. - Admin notifications are optionally included for those with access to them. New account registration: - Terms of Service link will display for instances that have them. - Fields will wait until you have entered data before warning if the entry is invalid. - Date of birth field has been added for servers with a minimum age requirement. Additional improvements: - Boosts and favorites on already-boosted posts should “stick” properly. - The Voice Over experience in the Followers and Following lists is significantly better.

Going viral just got a lot less painful! This version lists your notifications in streamlined groups instead of one at a time, meaning you can spend less time scrolling and more time being part of the conversation. - Favorites, boosts, and follows that occur close together will be grouped with similar notifications. (Resolves #399) - Follow requests can be approved or rejected when they appear. (Resolves #1342) You’ll also see a bunch of improvements around post visibility (”Public”, “Unlisted”, etc.) throughout the app: - Visibility setting for each post has been moved to the top of the compose window, just under the publish button, making it much more obvious. - Posts that are not public show the visibility icon next to the timestamp. - Private mentions and replies display headers as appropriate. - Several other long-standing issues in this area have been resolved (#242, #472, #1395). Posting is more reliable: - Compose window now stays open while the post is published, so you can address any errors that pop up - A bunch of errors that can happen during publishing are now reported to you instead of being ignored - Less likely for the app to freeze up while you’re typing a post Posts look better: - Link previews no longer show large blank spaces for images that never arrive - Compact link previews (for square/portrait or no images) show all the expected information - GIFs in content-warned or filtered posts are (once again) blurred out - Images and avatars should only ever show up with the posts they belong to Timeline works better: - Filters set to hide really do hide now (yes, we said that about the last version, too… but it really is fixed now, right?) - Tap on the author name opens their profile instead of the thread view (by @gokulvenkat243) - Larger tap areas for the action menu and content show/hide button

Just in time for Giving Tuesday, you may now see a banner at the bottom of your timeline inviting your support for Mastodon’s continued development (only when logged in to [mastodon.social](http://mastodon.social) or mastodon.online). You’ll also see a bunch of improvements, small and large: Filters work better! - Concealed posts no longer take up the full space of their content, which should make scrolling past them less arduous. - Filtered posts now tell you which filter they triggered! - Filters with the “hide” action should now actually remove posts from your feed completely, as intended. - Content warnings have also been updated slightly — as on the web, if the content warning text is empty, only the attached image will be hidden. Your privacy is better guarded… - When you log out of an account, logging in again will now require re-entering the username and password. - Deleting the app from your device and reinstalling will now launch as if you had never logged in. The new user experience is a little better… - The “Find people to follow” view is now dismissable even after you’ve viewed a profile. - When you follow someone from the “Find people to follow” view, your blank feed will update immediately… and hopefully show you some cool stuff! Some small visual improvements… - Vertical-stacked layout of edit history labels, which fixes some spectacularly bad layouts when the localized strings are lengthy. - Dark Mode icon now has a dark ‘m’. And finally… - Fewer crashes! File this under the customarily bland description “stability improvements” because although the refactoring projects involved have all the drama of sword dancing with freshly honed blades for the developer involved, you will hopefully notice nothing.

Long time no see! Okay, joke's on us as it has been just a week or so since the last release. But we've been busy and this is why you can enjoy these rather short release notes for the latest and greatest 2024.7-release of Mastodon for iOS. It contains not one, but two improvements and bug fixes: 1. We fixed a bug! In case you wanted to translate a reblogged status, this failed, but not anymore, as we fixed this! (IOS-271) 2. An improvement! If the author of a blogpost or a newspaper article or a video producer or any other content creator on the internet has a Mastodon-account (and did some configuration), you will see a small, additional button if someone posts a link to their written piece or video or content in general. This button leads you to the author's profile so that you can discover more of their content. We hope that these numerous changes help you discover more content you like, but: No pressure! Use Mastodon only as much as it feels good to you. We don't want to lurk you in as we all know: There are way more important things in life than social media. And that comes with this: - A new Privacy & Safety-section in the Settings-part of the app. Here you can configure the default visibility for new posts, for example. (IOS-168) - A bug fix for our Number One-crash! When tapping in your own profile too quickly, this resulted in a crash. But don't worry: We got this! (IOS-255, GH-1257) - Speaking of bug fixes: When you tried to change your profile fields, some content got erased. We are really for if this happened to you. (GH-1290) - A little cleanup, that won't affect you: We removed old persistence code for cards and polls (IOS-178, IOS-182) - We improved "Load more"-behaviour in several parts throughtout the entire app. Loading new content should be waaaaaaayyyyyy faster now, nearly at the speed of light! (IOS-272) - When you update your profile-image, you will see that change now in the Tab-bar (IOS-277) - We fixed a bug that showed the "Load more"-button in your Home-timeline when there was no new content (GH-1288) We hope that these fixes and improvements make your Mastodon-life a little easier. For example, it disappears now if you scroll to top (like it is supposed to) (GH-1278) - Remember the screen to login when you have an existing account? We made the server selection more elegant (IOS-226) - Also related to Onboarding: We slightly updated the Privacy-screen and improved Keyboard-handling. (IOS-221) - You can finally change your profile picture again from the app. We introduced a bug in one of the last versions, but got it fixed with 2024.5. Sorry for any inconveniences. Now go and update your profile picture! (GH-1276) - Don't want to miss any content, but missed the "Load More"-button between posts? Great news: We found and fixed a bug so that it's finally there again, so you don't miss any of the great content any longer! (IOS-266) - We improved the stability of the app by reducing the crashes. Promise! (IOS-257, IOS-254) - If there's a loooooong toot with a Content Warning, we limited the height of that Content Warning. This time it's the 2024.4-release and we're working hard to keep up the schedule: One release per month! Just kiddin. Truth to be told: We're basically a bunch of lazy people but from time to time we think: Well, we should ship another release. And then we work really, REALLY hard to make the Mastodon-app better. And this is why the 2024.4-version contains this: - We (hopefully!) improved the polls! Voting and poll creation should be much smoother and way more stable now. Give it a try and ask those nice and helpful people on Mastodon what to have for dinner tonight! (IOS-181) - New month, new me! We updated the designs of the Home-screen, you can switch between your local community-timeline and the people you're following. We also updated the little indicator (we call it: Pill) that shows if there are new posts or if that toot was sent. Let us know how you like those changes! (IOS-234, IOS-235) - We also updated how we present the timestamp and other meta-information of a post (IOS-232) - Under the Explore-tab, we improved the interface which lets you choose between the most popular posts and other things to explore (IOS-237) - Remember that we added Domain-blocking a few releases ago? Turns out: You could block the community you're part of. This wasn't intended at all and we just missed that, sorry and thanks for reporting! (GH-1269) - We added a new visibility option to post. It's called either "Unlisted" or "Quiet public" and modernized the icons for those different options. (GH-1271) - Temporarily we turned off haptic feedback. But same as with the community timeline or a famous killing machine: I(t) will be back! (IOS-247) - Last, but not least we tweaked how the number of people is presented. We're working hard to fix the bugs we introduced a few versions earlier and so this release mostly contains bug fixes and improvements. And without further ado it's an honor to present the release notes: - Have you checked out the new Dettings-area yet? We added some more options there. For example you can set the default language for posts there or activate if you want to be asked before unfollowing someone. (IOS-166) - Pardon my french: We fixed a bug for french-speaking users. If you wanted to compose a long post, the app crashed when it was too long. Thanks to you for reporting it and thanks to us for fixing it. Great teamwork! (GH-1255) - We switched the tabs on the notification-screen so that it matches the other Mastodon-apps. (IOS-240) - When you wanted to reply to a status, your handle showed up twice. Sure, your name is really nice, but once is enough (GH-1254) - We fixed the cursor-color for the input for image descriptions. Now it sparks more joy to write image descriptions. This is a subtle hint: WRITE IMAGE DESCRIPTIONS!. (GH-1253) - The app has its own User-Agent now. It also constains the version number. (GH-1098) - We removed the Community-tab from the Explore-tab. It was kind of hidden but don't worry: It'll come back soon, stay tuned! (IOS-236) - We fixed a bug (twice!) that didn't let you edit your profile. Now you can change your handle and your bio again and upload a nice avatar. Sometimes you need more than one shot. (GH-1244, IOS-239, GH-1259) - We cleaned up some dust in the project. This won't affect your daily use. Promise! (GH-1248, GH-1247, GH-1252) That's it! We're steadily working on improving the app, adding new features (and the community-tab!) and fixing nasty bugs. Welcome to another release of Mastodon for iOS. Some time has passed, but the latest version is finally here: Say hello to 2024.02! It's mostly a maintenance release, nothing special: We fixed some bugs related to widgets (GH-1234) and hashtag-search (GH-1233) and improved performance throughout the entire app (GH-1237, GH-1192, GH-1230, GH-1229, GH-1227). This is a first! Hello and welcome to the first release of Mastodon for iOS in 2024. We've worked hard, searched (and found and fixed) bugs and looked for other improvements. And we increased the speed, otherwise this wouldn't be the first release, right? Still, it comes with a truckload of stuff: - Say hello to my little friend: Domain blocks! You're really annoyed by a bunch of people from the very same instance? Well, instead of blocking them individually, you can block the entire instance now, right from the app. To do so, head to the profile of that person as if you wanted to block them but block the domain. Now you can rest in peace and by resting in peace I mean enjoying Mastodon more than ever, of course! (IOS-5) - We made some huge progress in our long-term project: Performance Improvements. Using the app should be significantly faster now, as we reworked the Status-handling throughout the entire app. (GH-1167, GH-1210, IOS-214) - Speaking of speed: We reduced the amount of Network-requests sent to your Mastodon-instance when you scroll the Home-timeline. And we also don't fetch data anymore we don't need in the Status-menu. Why downloading stuff you don't need, right? Instead the app now fetches the data for the menu, when you need them. (GH-1214, GH-1213) - You know, that you can edit your statuses afterwards, right? This comes in super handy when you fidn a tpyo in a status, for example. What you couldn't edit were image descriptions, also known as alt text. Well, now you can. This will also be super useful as it means that you can — and should! — add descriptions to images later, if you forgot that in the first place. (GH-1138) - We fixed a bug that the app didn't respect the post-length defined on your server. (GH-1049) - When we improved the credentials-handling in 2023.14, we forgot to make the Widgets use the new code. As a consequence the Wdgets couldn't login into your account which means that you couldn't use the Widgets. Sorry! (GH-1201) - Search also got a little better: We fixed an endless loop when something went wrong. (GH-1188) - Last but not least, we fixed a nasty bug that one offline account affected other accounts. In other words: If you have multiple accounts in the app with one being a suspended or expired account, this prevented the other accounts from being used, too. We cut the ties here. (GH-1178) That's it! This is all the 2024.1-release of Mastodon contains. We didn't hide any other things like secret bug fixes or various improvements in there. (GH-1172) - Speaking of logging out: When you restarted the app right after logging out, well, you were still logged in as we didn't remove the credentials properly. (GH-1181) - Another credential-related bug: In the 2023.14-release, we added a bug so you couldn't share to Mastodon from another app. It resulted in the very precise error message "No available account". Well, good news everyone: We found your account! And we fixed the bug, so that you can share interesting articles and memes with your friends on Mastodon. Right in time for #Caturday. (GH-1168) - This is the first contribution of Rizwan and we're very grateful for that: When you double-tap the search tab, it focuses the search bar so that you can start searching right away. Thank you, Rizwan! (GH-748) - You Hometimeline shouldn't forget your position any longer when you switched tabs. (GH-744) - We added some performance improvements for "Familiar Followers". Another day, another release? Yes, sadly, because we screwed up and we'd like to apologize for that. Remember that we changed the required iOS-version in the 2023.14-release? Saying, that not many people would be affected? Turns out: Too many people couldn't use the app this morning because it crashed. But only on iOS 16. And this release fixes that. Thanks to all of you who quickly reported it. I was awake very fast this morning due to that. (GH-1161) Again: We're really sorry that you couldn't use the app for a few hours. In the end, we are humans, programmers, who care about their work, but humans are known to make mistakes from time to time. Dear Mastodon-user, dear (unknown) friend, welcome to another release of Mastodon for iOS in 2023. This year we've shipped 14 new versions in total so far, including this one. That's why this version is 2023.14. It contains this: - We changed the required iOS-version. From now on your device needs to run iOS 16 or later. We checked how many users would be affected by this (spoiler: not many) before making this decision. (GH-1125) - Mastodon is more fun with friends! If you don't follow any other accounts (yet), the app suggests some accounts to follow. On that very screen we fixed that the convenient "Follow all"-button is enabled only when there are suggestions (GH-1124) - We added another localization: From now on you can use the app in Armenian, too. We also updated the translations. This wouldn't be possible without the help of the amazing community. So: Thank you! (GH-1147) - The checkmark next to verified links on a profile got a little visual update (IOS-130) - If people want to talk to you because you are a very interesting and lovely person (which is true!) or you post lots of #CatsOfMastodon on #Caturday, you might receive llots of notifications. In that case the little indicator-dot on the Notification-screen-icon is red now (GH-1132) - We started to rework the Settings-part of the app and will improve it in the upcoming versions (GH-1073, IOS-14). As a first step, we show information about your instance (IOS-20) and updated the UI. - We fixed a crash on the Profile-screen that happened when you wanted to reorder the field in your profile (GH-1154) - No more improvements or bug fixes other than those mentioned here (Promise!) - The app isn't perfect, we have to admit (although pretty good), so we work on it and steadily improve it. This time, we also fixed a security issue by migrating the credentials over to the encrypted Keychain so that they're safe there.
