SAFAST is a youth-led nonprofit app designed to protect people and communities from climate-related risks through timely, accessible, and personalized safety information. As climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme heat, poor air quality, flooding, and climate-driven health threats, SAFAST ensures that critical warnings and guidance reach people when they matter most.
The app delivers real-time alerts for environmental and climate hazards, including heat waves, air quality dangers, flooding risks, and other localized threats. Using trusted public data sources and APIs, SAFAST continuously monitors changing conditions and sends notifications directly to users—often within minutes of detection—so individuals and families can take action quickly and reduce harm.
What sets SAFAST apart is its personalized alert system. Users may optionally provide information such as age range, health considerations, disabilities, or caregiving responsibilities. This allows alerts to be tailored for vulnerable populations, including older adults, children, people with disabilities, and individuals with underlying health conditions. Each alert explains the risk in clear language and provides practical, easy-to-follow guidance based on the user’s needs.
SAFAST also includes an interactive map that displays active climate risks and warnings across regions. This feature helps users visualize where events are occurring, track evolving conditions, and better understand the broader impact of climate hazards in real time.
Beyond alerts, SAFAST focuses on long-term preparedness and resilience. The app offers an Educational Guides section with a growing collection of resources, including printable safety materials, preparedness guides, magazines, and educational content for individuals, families, schools, and community organizations. These tools help users prepare in advance, understand climate risks, and support others in their communities.
