Gastric Ultrasound is becoming an essential tool to assess patients undergoing surgical procedures. Many specialists, like anesthesiologist, Intensive care physicians and emergency medicine physicians have shown a lot interest in Ultrasound assessment of the gastric content. Fasting guidelines set by many Anesthesia and Critical care societies are still the gold standard to follow in making proper decision in regards to sedation and full general anesthesia management with airway manipulation; however advancement in many specialties have encouraged physicians to acquire a new skill to enhance the way to provide better care for their patients. Implementing the use of Ultrasound have been important for many physicians in their daily practice, including Gastric ultrasound in many institutions. When it comes to Gastric ultrasound, There are two major issues faced by physicians, the first one is receiving proper training, there are many online and in-person courses to achieve a high competency level. The second is the Ultrasound functionality. Ultrasound machines are able to calculate the cross sectional area of the antrum; however, it does not provide a tool to calculate the gastric fluid volume. The Skantrix Gastric Ultrasound Application which included a fluid volume calculator, will provide an easy free tracing tool for the Antrum and calculates the volume. The only task the physician will have to complete, is the proper bedside Gastric ultrasound scan, then taking a picture of the ultrasound monitor for the Skantrix app to calculate the fluid volume. Exams and images can be saved and reviewed at a later date.
