Skycatching 2.0 is a game now. Every catch earns fragments. Spend them on better optics or a cannon. Raiders fly across the sky. Shoot them down. Your first one comes with a cannon on loan. Your stars form a fleet. Use it to free constellations under siege, then take on six final bosses. Real meteor showers pay double. And everything looks new.

Name your stars. Any star you have caught can now be given a name of your own. Open its record and tap rename. Your name leads wherever the star is shown, with its real name beside it in grey, because that is still the name it has on every chart in the world. Search finds it by either.

Every star has a story to tell. Open a star you've caught. Below the catalog sheet, you'll now find a few sentences about what you're looking at. When did its light set out on its journey, and what happened here on Earth before it reached us? How many times more light does it produce than our Sun? How long does a star like this shine? And what would our Sun look like from there? None of this is written by hand. Everything is calculated from the data. And when the data isn't enough to say something reliably, the app simply stays quiet. That's why some stars have more to say than others. And a few more changes For a star you haven't caught yet, the approximate marker is now half the size and stays on the sky for a full minute instead of twenty seconds. And the button to dismiss it is finally where you can easily find it at the top. Star search is faster.

Wind the sky. A bar under your thumb moves the sky twelve hours either way. Sit and watch it turn, or drag to midnight to see whether Orion will be up before you put your coat on. Sunset, darkness and dawn are marked on the bar, worked out for where you are standing. You cannot catch a star in a sky that is not up. The whole app stands on that, so it stays true. Also in this one: - Sunsets have colours. The sky used to go from dark blue to slightly lighter dark blue. Now it runs through gold, orange, red and violet, from the real altitude of the Sun. - Search finds what you are looking at. Typing a constellation used to return nothing, and the Moon could not be found at all. - The widget's rows fit. The hour was being cut off to make room for a word explaining the hour.

A widget for your home screen. It shows what you are part way through the figures closest to finished, how many stars of each you hold, and whether they are above the horizon right now or what time they come up tonight. Three sizes, plus two for the lock screen. It does not count down and it does not ask for anything. It changes when you catch a star, and when the sky turns.

It explains itself now. The first minute tells you what to do, one sentence at a time, and each one goes away once you have done it. Point at it and it locks like any star — and because the Moon is drawn wherever it really is, that still works when it is under your feet, on the far side of the Earth. Tell the compass where north is. A phone compass can be out by 10–20°, which is enough to put the wrong star in the ring. Point at the Moon, align, and the whole sky snaps into place. Also fixed: the arrow that leads you to a star could point the wrong way when you were nearly on top of it.
