I’ve been using the Pomodoro technique for years to fight procrastination. I’ve tried many Pomodoro apps out there, but I always found something I didn’t like, so I decided to build my own.
It’s free. I’ve never understood why a simple timer should cost anything. It's also private, I don't collect any information whatsoever. I also needed to adjust session times quickly, without digging through settings. Most Pomodoro apps focus on the timer itself. For me, what matters more is how productive I’ve actually been, so Strive! centers around daily and weekly progress.
I've been struggling with procrastination forever. The Pomodoro technique helped me a lot, because my issue was usually not to actually do the work, but to get started and to keep focused. This deal of "I'll be focused for the next 25 minutes, and then I'm allowed a few minutes of break" really works for me. However, I have a few issues with most of the apps out there. First, the standard 25/5 split is too rigid for me, I have bad and good days, easy and hard tasks. Sometimes I need a 5 minute session to get me started, sometimes I want to do a 90 minute session for a complex task.
Apps also tend to focus too much on the timer itself. For me, what's more important is how I'm doing today especially compared to the previous week. So in Strive! I put these metrics at the center.
Lastly, I wanted something that's very clean and minimalist.
