Optimizations and fixes, build for iOS 26. ...and a modified icon

The iPhone walk screen now allows you to increase the number of meters of the walk shown in steps of 50 meters. If you walk in a straight line, this is similar to zooming in or out. If you walk in concentric circles, this zooming out has no effect once the outer circle is fully visible. And as always, the code has been cleaned up and updated in order to make it more performant and stable.

General. This release… … fixes a problem where walks with names containing punctuation characters could not be exported or shared …fixes an issue on Apple Watch where the guiding screen does not rotate to the direction of the current segment, but stays stuck on the previous segment. But the big novelty is the iPhone walk screen. The walk screen was rewritten from scratch (more correct – the watch version made it to the iPhone). No new features - we tried to make the initial jump as small as possible - except... 1 : The walk map can be set in manual mode where you can drag, zoom or rotate yourself. In this mode, the track arrows are replaced by circles. 2 : The elevation profile shows some extra info : current elevation (if present in the gpx file), distance walked, distance left and grade (derived from gpx file, not from altimeter). 3 : The walk overview map shows the distance left. 4: For walks without elevation info, the missing data will be added while walking. Nice is you want to share the walk as gpx later on.

watchOs ====== Constantly rotating the walking map to follow your course was considered as 'too nervous' by many users. During walks with many points, rotation became very choppy and energy-hungry. That's why this release optimizes the walking screen: - As long as you are navigating to the first point of the walk, the screen will continue to rotate with your course. But only the first point is shown. - As soon as you reach the first trackpoint, the screen rotation is fixed on the course of the segment. - Every time you pass a trackpoint, the screen rotates so that the next segment is shown 'straight ahead'. - The green and blue guide arrows are still recalculated with your physical course changes. So green continues to point to the next point in the real world. - A lot of under-the-hood changes for faster performance and less energy usage. - The button to open the old version of the walking screen has been removed. iOS == The thumbnail cards on the main screen now contain more details. They are not automatically recalculated: this only happens when you adjust the walk or when you select the 'Recalculate background' option from the context menu. This change should also minimise (but not completely eliminate) the number of background map images that cannot be rendered by maps.

This version of TrackGuide is all about watchOS - your watch as your guide. The only thing that changes on iOS is that we now - just weeks after its release - require iOS 17 or higher. Sorry for that. But watchOS 10 no longer includes just a limited version of Apple maps. It contains a full singing and dancing Apple maps now. Which is why TrackGuide 10.0 needs watchOS 10 (and iOS 17) as a minimum (and that is why we could not wait to adapt). All changes revolve around new screens to guide you on your walk : - Unlike the previous walk screen - north up - the new walk screen rotates with your orientation so map stays aligned with the real world - The track to follow now shows as a line on the map. - The walk screen no longer shows just the previous point, the next point and 2 points thereafter, but the previous point, the next point and all points thereafter for the next 100 meters. (this might be more or less than 2 points). - Swipe to toggle between the standard zoomed map, an elevation chart or an overview map. - The elevation and overview screen both show your current postion on the walk - The elevation map shows the current grade (if elevation data is available in the GPX you imported) and elevation - The overview map shows the total distance left. - The 'next turn' arrow shows the incoming angle to the next point. (hard to explain, but lets give it a try : ) Every arrow in TrackGuide is made up of two part connected with a hinge in the center. Before, the lower part of the 'next turn' arrow always started straight up. The upper part pointed at the direction to take at the next point. This still is the case if you are 100% on track, but if you are off track, the first part of the arrow will indicate the direction to go in order to rejoin the track. - Guidance was rewritten from scratch : all code to allow TrackGuide to run on watches without compass or GPS was removed. (those watches do not run watchOS10 anyway) - Might the new walk manager fail - it lacks the 1000s of test kilometers the old one has racked up over the years - the old manager is still available behind an button labelled 'old' as a backup to get you out of the wilderness.

General This version of TrackGuide requires iOS version 15 or later. (Previous version did run on iOS 13). From now on, future versions will require the latest iOS release. What's new The 'import from iCloud' windows have been rewritten using the latest Apple technologies (SwiftUI-Combine to be technical). No functional changes, although the new windows look slightly different. The watch app no longer crashes when you start a walk on the phone while navigating with your watch.

Every registered user can now upload up to 4 walks to a public database where it can freely downloaded by any - registered or not - TrackGuide user. To upload, open the menu for the walk (long/hard press on the walk) and select “Upload to Public iCloud (max 4)”. - Fixes a bug where compas readings were ignored on some iPhone 13 models - Various bug fixes and stability improvements - Technical updates to stay up to date with the newest tools and technologies

Stability improvements Distance of generated walk now correctly updates when refreshing a walk on your watch.

- Fixes a bug where intermediate points (one per second at walking speed) were added to exported GPX files. - Added simple 'left'-'right' to spoken instructions. - Spoken instructions tuned ('Slightly left', 'sharply left'... type instructions will occur more at the expense of instructions containing the number of degrees to turn). - Added the possibility to select more than 1 gpx file to import. - The name of an imported track is no longer overwritten by the name of the last imported trackpoint for gpx files with named points. - The iPad screen now shows twice as may tiles.

- Spoken instructions should now work when the app is backgrounded - Option added to navigate tot the start of a walk using Maps. - Apple Watch : Added more focus on the 'Next' arrow of the walk screen

iOS only : when you start a walk that is more than 100 meters away from your current position, TrackGuide now proposes to guide you to that walk first. watchOS and iOS : TrackGuide can now speak instruction for the upcoming point, for points without explicit instructions (in 300 meters : 120 degrees to the left), speak the names of interesting points and even the complete descriptions these points. All these can be turned off or on. You can shake your device to interrupt long monologues. Background image restored on the 'interesting point info' window

Fixes a crash on iOS 14 when closing a POI window while walking. An old version of the POI screen is temporarily restored. (Older iOS versions keep using the latest version of this window) Spoken instructions can now be turned off.

Your phone or your watch can speak instructions or landmark descriptions if these are present in your walk. Fixes a crash when running on iOS 14. Some toolbar icons updated on iOS13 or higher. Updated to the latest Apple tools and libraries.

New : You can aks trackGuide to (re) generate localised routing instructions (like "take left onto Baker Street") for existing walks. Only works for areas with named streets. Not for walks in the woods. Editing instructions (the arrows) is no longer done full-screen on the iPad but in a PopUp. The Watch app no longer crashes when you select a walk before your GPS position is determined. Some bug fixes and optimisations.

This update does away with a recurring 'no gps fix yet...' message when you select a walk on your watch.

Walk previews further enhanced : - Smoother - Shows pictures whenever you pass a point with a picture. - New point number or name is shown when changing your position in a walk. When you register TrackGuidePRO, that info is pushed into the cloud immediately. No more need to restart. Stability

Some enhancements to the walk preview : - Alter speed - Alter camera height - Alter camera pitch If you bought the TrackGuidePRO (in App purchase), that info is now shared with TrackGuide GPX editor for MacOs for future use. One purchase for both platforms! Sharing is done via your own private iCloud - nothing is shared with the authors.

Fixes a problem on the iPad where one could not leave the walk screen. New ! : Preview your walks in a FlyOver-like interface. If no 3D imaginary is available, or if your network connection is too slow, satellite images will be used. (Feature limited to the first 5 points of a walk for non-TrackGuidePro users)
