Maps.me after updates juni 2022 no good!
Ik gebruik Maps.me (MM) al vanaf 2015 en heb inmiddels vele groepen met favorieten (= waypoints en routes) in gebruik. Ik beschouw mijzelf als een tot voorkort enthousiaste en loyale gebruiker.
Eind juni 2022, ik ontdekte het op 24-6, is er in de App Store (iOS) een nieuwe versie (13.0) beschikbaar gekomen van MM. Onder andere kunnen nu eventueel bestaande groepen met favorieten in een gewenste, nieuwe volgorde worden geplaatst (hulde!). Hierdoor veel beter beheer van je groepen!
Inmiddels, na een groot aantal updates (13.x en 14.x) sindsdien in korte tijd (geen goed teken!), is er door mij in praktische zin helaas nog steeds niet goed met MM te werken.
Het is bijvoorbeeld niet meer mogelijk om groepen met daarin alleen KML-tracks aan en uit te schakelen, zoals dat bij groepen met daarin alleen waypoints wél mogelijk is. Het is nu ‘alles of niets’. Echt heel storend! Het maakt de app voor mij grotendeels onbruikbaar.
De onderliggende nieuwe functionaliteit is dus wél uitgebreid (dat is positief!!), maar met het bovenstaande probleem, heb je daar dus eigenlijk niet veel aan (negatief!!).
Alternatief:
Intussen ben ik (hopelijk tijdelijk) overgestapt op ‘Organic Maps’ (OM), een 100% goedwerkende kloon. Aanrader!
Je kunt bestaande groepen met waypoints of routes van MM eenvoudig exporteren naar OM en er daar mee verder werken. Uitstekende app!
Het valt me trouwens op dat er recent, naast de vele positieve reviews ook nog steeds heel veel zeer negatieve reviews zijn. Het betreft hier volgens mij:
- nieuwe gebruikers, of gebruikers die Maps.me maar sporadisch gebruiken, en niet weten wat ze missen;
- en daar tegenover zijn er veel oude, ervaren gebruikers die de vroegere functionaliteit heel goed kenden en waardeerden. Voor deze laatste groep zijn de updates van juni 2022 en daarna geen genoegen.
Misschien dat de ontwikkelaars van MM de uitgebreide functionaliteit van voorheen kunnen terugbrengen, dan zullen zowel de oude als de nieuwe gebruikers heel gelukkig mee zijn!
