Note: Access to a Nextcloud server with the Notes app installed is required to use this app. Visit https://nextcloud.com for more information. Nextcloud Notes is a notes editor that syncs with the Notes app (https://github.com/nextcloud/notes/releases) on your server. Once you have logged in to your server, all notes will be kept in sync between devices and also the web interface. Optionally supports sync on startup. You can create and delete notes directly on the device. Notes can be organized in categories. Edit as plain text or use markdown for rich formatting. Notes can be copied or exported to other apps or services in several formats. If you have a sync client (optional) installed on your desktop computer all notes will be there too, and can be edited with any text editor.

If you try to get away from the big, this note app will not help you. Unless you’re willing to create text only notes. It is possible to use Markdown language and get formatted text, but it’s not a natural thing to use when creating notes. Unless perhaps you’re a developer. Markdown is heavily used within GitHub for example (readme.md). Editing notes with the browser is much easier. So if you want to migrate from Apple Notes to Nextcloud, be prepared for some unpleasant work(arounds)

CloudNotes is a brilliant solution for text-based markup notes. I’ve been using this app for some three months now and it has proven to be not only functionally satisfactory but very reliable as well. I moved from SimpleNote to CloudNotes only because I like to host my own data (on NextCloud). Although I had no complaints about SimpleNote, I found CloudNotes to be even better. Especially the formatting while editing markup text is very convenient. Compared to “all media” note taking solutions such as Evernote and OneNote, CloudNotes might seem somewhat limited. Being all too familiar with these alternatives, I find the simplicity of markup-note taking to be refreshingly easy and pleasing. If you run your own NextCloud you should definitely try this one.
