Too expensive for what it is

I am lucky and purchased Ulysses before it moved to a subscription model, and I'm still using Ulysses 2.8.3 frequently. I tried the subscription model, but can't really see the advantage to it. It's just a text-writing app, and I don't write books or anything big like that.If the subscription cost was $10 yearly I would probably have kept the subscription. But at the current price that isn't an option. I'll keep on using Ulysses 2.8.3 until the day it stops working (the last version before the change to the subscription model), and when it does stop working, I'll just find a different alternative that is either free, or that has a one-time cost.Subscription models are OK for content providers like Spotify, Netflix, etc. but not for a simple word processor.

Ulysses have proven to have immense staying power for me. I have used many different kinds of note taking apps over the years but none have stayed with me for so long as Ulyssses.When Ulysses started charging subscription I abandoned it for several years in favor of iA Writer. I have a principle against paying subscriptions. Yet, after several years with iA Writer I came back because Ulysses is simply very hard to match by other software.iA Writer had some benefits I still like such as saving to standard Markdown format. Yet what I always missed from Ulysses was its search functionality. Searching for old articles in Ulysses works much better than in other tools I have used. When you write a lot over many years that is quite important functionality.What really sold me over the last year is the bultin "Check text" functionality. I paid an arm and a leg for a Grammarly subscription to check my writing only to discover that Ulysses provided much grammar and spell checking for a much lower price. Not just better but much faster and convenient to use. Grammarly on my computer was way too slow and impractical.It makes me actually a bit surprised that Ulysses is not more widely known and used.
