Timeout: Feel It First

Feel it before you say it

Free · In-App Purchases

The app's interface is in Norwegian. Feel it before you say it: two soft taps on your watch before the window closes, and a real 20-minute break. Everything on device. Timeout learns your body's own signs that you are leaving the window of tolerance, taps your Apple Watch before it closes, and walks you through a real 20-minute break. So you get to choose your words. The app's interface is in Norwegian. BODY FIRST. WORDS AFTER. Gottman and Levenson showed that flooding starts long before you notice it: your pulse climbs while you sit still, you sigh, your voice goes up, and around 100 beats a minute you lose the ability to listen. Timeout listens to the body, not the words. HOW IT WORKS • The window is open: the watch reads your pulse every few seconds while the window is open, without saving a workout. You open and close it yourself. • Apple Health: Timeout reads heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV, sleep, workouts and State of Mind from the Health app, and writes the feelings you name to Health only if you turn it on. • Body sounds on the phone: sighs, gasps and a raised voice are recognised as classes with timestamps. Never words, never an audio file. Only at home, and only when you turn it on. • The window is closing: two soft taps on the wrist when your pulse climbs at rest or your body sighs the way it does before your own episodes. One line on the screen, two buttons. No lecture. • Timeout, 20 minutes: the ring counts down, the suggestions fit where you are, and the watch tells you when your body is calm. Afterwards: one card with sentences that repair. • Put it into words: “What do you feel?” One tap. Naming the feeling calms it, and gives the app a label with your body in the same moment. • Your own model: label episodes afterwards, and Timeout learns your curve instead of a fixed number. • Live Activity in the Dynamic Island and on the lock screen, complication and Smart Stack on the watch, Double Tap to start the break. THE RESEARCH Based on published research by John Gottman and others on physiological flooding and the 20-minute break, and Daniel Siegel's window of tolerance, and research on affect labelling, sighing, voice and sleep.
