Fastest compressor yet!

Much faster than previous versions. Best image quality of any transcoding/converting software I have used to date.

All that seems to be missing is the abilty to utilise my macs graphics card and do foregorund conversions for an even faster compressor.

Great visual improvements with excellent codec support

An essential tool and time saver for those who regularly create or publish videos. A lot of reviewers have complained that Compresssor 4 is still not a 64-bit app, however, this is a deliberate decision by Apple that maitains compatibility with a broader range of codecs used by professionals. Although seperating Compressor from FCP and maintaining 32-bit compatibility is a smart move, I still wish Apple could find a way to incorporate Compresor into FCP and keep all the compatibility goodness.

UI enhancements to Compressor are an attractive compliment to FCP, with Touch Bar support being the icing on the cake. Touch bar controls look awesome, although I am still experimenting with ways that Touch Bar might seed up my workflow.

I wish compression was a little faster. I have just upgraded to a MacBook Pro (2016) Skylake Core-i5 (16GB), and while it does appear to run a little faster, it’s not quite the improvement I had hoped for. Overall speed is not bad, it’s just not that fantastic either.

Depressing to say the least

Wow I thought, a new version of Compressor - maybe they’ve finally made it 64 bit after having promised to build it upon ‘modern technologies’ in the first release. Nope, once again Compressor 4.1 is a giant disappointment and a failure in my books to actually provide a 64 bit Compressor that is actually based on AV Foundation/AV Kit rather than the crufty old QuickTime. To add insult to injury I compared encoding with Compressor 4.1 (compressord runs in 32bit) to iFFmpeg with ffmpeg compiled into a 64 bit binary. The speed difference was huge - and honestly, you’re better off saving your money and going with a a freeware solution given how slow Compressor is.
