When you update an app that is integral to making a 7 parts into a good system and it fails, the user ends up with seven useless components. This is where I am now. I could use different speakers as sources and play different or same music on all in house. Now I can cast from my mac to only one speaker. That speaker speaks to nothing else. The only Source I see is my TV. And the interface for listening to that is now compromised. Too busy doing disparate products for too many segments? What was a pride and joy is now a deep irritation.
The app gets worse and worse
Escotchy
After seeing how excited Sonos were about their new app update, I got excited. Maybe the responsiveness and stability would improve I thought. All that seems to have happened is they have introduced a customizable home page, changed the look and feel, and removed a lot of controls/options fundamental to my listening experience. I listen to my own curated playlists and like to combine multiple playlists into one big queue on shuffle, and sometimes remove and add to the queue as I go. Now the queue often doesn’t even load, when it does I can’t edit it at all, add or remove tracks. Basic! Did Sonos even seek customer feedback on this? I can’t imagine they did. The original app in use 9 years ago when I first got Sonos was much faster and more responsive. It’s gotten worse and worse and has been the reason I haven’t added any more speakers to the 7 own, for years now. I need to look for a better system
Do NOT update to version 80! Sleep timer and alarms don’t work!
Sapienaustralis
If, like me, your Sonos system is in your bedroom and you use alarms and sleep timers as part of your sleep/wake routine then bad news; the version 80 update will brick your Sonos, as alarms and sleep timers aren’t supported. Yep, one of the key bits of functionality I use daily has just been lost from Sonos. Why? Laziness? Who knows. There’s an entire cottage industry of sleep sounds makers, ambient musicians, and other wellness sound makers who can’t lull you to sleep on a timer. And apparently if you have a shifting schedule of wake up times to accommodate workouts etc, you need a laptop to prepare for your day’s alarm call on your Sonos. UPDATE: the app is also prone to logging me out, AND the desktop app doesn’t support alarms. It just keeps going from bad to worse.Plus, the redesign looks horrible if you have your phone set to accommodate poor vision.
Original was awesome - this is terrible.
AndoCollins
The original Sonos app was amazing - easy and natural navigation, clear and logical to operate. This new version is driving me absolutely crazy. Compared to the previous app (S1) the audio controls lack logic, the steps to control multiple speakers is no longer intuitive and the whole thing has taken a huge step backwards. What’s amazing to me is how much the app ‘defined’ Sonos. The speakers are nothing without the app and this latest iteration is horrible. Sonos have recognised that this is a problem and promised to fix it but after many updates we are no closer. I am now upset that my extensive Sonos speaker investment is becoming ‘orphaned’ by this useless app and I’m going to have to change everything. Fix it Sonos, for the love of god.
