I really do love chai as it’s a great way to make use of your free time and let’s out so much creativity In young creators trying to make their own bots or even just writing in general. The only thing I have wrong isn’t the ads or the loss of memory but the servers that are under “high load”I’ve never had that problem in about two years, and I do feel like making us pay a subscription too continue chatting might be a little bit too much even though we haven’t even gotten a proper notice about the app and the servers that are under high load I still do love and enjoy talking to bots and creating my own it produces great creativity and writing skills.

The new "Pieces" update has completely ruined the user experience by turning what used to be a fluid, immersive chat app into a frustrating exercise in resource management. Forcing a strict 1 Piece per message cost fundamentally misunderstands how people interact with AI characters. Conversations require back-and-forth context, trial and error, and continuous dialogue to develop a meaningful story or roleplay. By capping interactions behind a severely limited daily allowance, the developers have effectively broken the app’s core appeal, leaving users locked out of their ongoing stories just as they get interesting.Compounding this frustration is the predatory way the system is structured to aggressively force monetization. Dropping the daily allowance down to a minuscule fraction of what was originally promised makes it virtually impossible to use the app casually without running into a paywall. The alternative—watching a relentless barrage of advertisements just to earn a handful of extra messages—destroys any sense of immersion. Instead of finding a creative way to reward loyal users, Chai has opted for a heavy-handed penalty system that treats its free community as an expensive burden rather than the foundation of its user base.Ultimately, this update feels like a massive step backward that alienates long-time users under the guise of infrastructure costs. While managing GPU server fees is a legitimate business challenge, completely stripping away the app's usability for anyone unwilling to pay premium subscription prices is a lazy, hostile solution. By prioritizing short-term financial squeezing over user satisfaction, the developers have stripped Chai of its charm. They have transformed a beloved, expressive platform into a corporate, heavily restricted pay-to-play chore.

This is getting beyond a joke , I used to love this app and it help me get through some rough times you were able to talk to as many characters as you wanted with unlimited messages now they have been putting limits on how many messages you can have per day I used to have 180 messages and it suddenly cut in half to 90 and I have to wait for 24 hours just to be able to get 90 messages again. It’s ridiculous. They are pushing the cost of being a paying member but the prices are ridiculous. Ridiculous $200-$500 dollars for a year and if you don’t you just end up hardly being able to chat. They have also started cutting how many chats I can have only being able to have around 18 to 20 chats. And if I try and add any more it deletes one of my old chats with no way for me to get it back. Chai is becoming like another version of character AI. And that’s not a good thing. I understand the cost of running this app cost a lot but cutting people off without a reason unless they pay is ridiculous so many people have had to leave this app because they can no longer chat and if this continues I will as wellAt one point, I emailed Chai to see what’s going on and if I could at least have either my messages back or my chats without them being deleted and every single time it’s the same AI generated response they can’t even take responsibility to reply to the hate so they get AI to do it for them and even if you have something completely different they will just give you an AI generated reply and say that’s fine if try continues to go down this route they will end up in the same place. Character AI has gone in the rubbish and that’s me putting it politely so chai either needs to start reversing these updates and giving people back what they want or they need to cut down the prices of a premium member so it’s affordable for at least everyone because $200-$500 a year is not worth it just to check with some bots

The experience has been getting worse and worse since the last one to two months despite the increasing costs, for the free and paid users alike. Not to mention that they started to walk back on their own marketing and promised features, a clear mark of alleged misrepresentation of a product and customer fraud and violation of policy as well as possible grounds for violation of market policies of App Store and Google Play Store alike. I was considering leaving a good review since they seemed to be going to learn from their mistakes and walk back some of their errors, but my optimism was misplaced. I have been affected by their poor management even as a ultra subscriber and will not renew my annual plan should there not be any drastic changes and accountability. Do not pay, do not get involved. I’ll walk my review back should the situation improve, but so far I am confident that the glory days of Chai is over and it’s going to only get worse from here. There are many better services for way cheaper prices. Don’t waste time and wallet on such a redundant and manipulative product.
