App Store Editors’ Notes

Friendly competition with a like-minded sporting community is a big part of Strava's appeal. More than just a GPS, Strava shares your rides and runs automatically, so it's really low maintenance. See your rank on your favourite segment, join distance challenges, and follow your friends, pros and even foes. As they say, "If it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen".

Why love Strava?

Strava TAPS into the mindset of anyone with an ounce of competitiveness in them. Yet there’s no need to “compete” with anyone but yourself. Those who do will TAP themselves OUT to “beat” other users over chosen segments. It’s odd because I pretty much never see those annoying people who are “much” faster than me. No “matter.” (In my case, certainly no grey “matter” is being applied) In a Covid violated world, it’s All Good Fun and Im addicted. Thanks to the Great Crazy Original masterminds. You have improved the whole world for amatuer sports people. Game changer, For sure. Dr Philip Wong Wellington NZ. Strava enthusiast.

Really choice app, love the accuracy over mapmyrun. Possible improvement would be to improve distance accuracy in the display to 2 decimal figures. I think right now it’s to the nearest 100m but with open air training, sometimes you need to do staggered circuits with runs with 150m as an example. Another improvement would be for the Strava app to support swim circuits and which can track lengths swim (or at least monitor heart rate, calories burnt etc). The circuit feature doesn’t track heart rate etc, I think this would be a great addition as being able to gauge heart rate when doing high intensity exercises with runs included would be good to gauge over doing it etc. overall, think the apps great but could do with some TLC in areas. :)

Bring back Fatmap

Strava’s acquisition and subsequent shutdown of Fatmap has been a massive disappointment for the winter backcountry community. Fatmap was an incredible mapping tool for ski touring and mountaineering, offering detailed terrain analysis, advanced layering options, and powerful trip-planning tools that simply do not exist in Strava’s current mapping system.Strava claimed they would integrate Fatmap’s features into their app, but this has not happened. Instead, they have effectively destroyed a highly valuable resource for winter backcountry users, replacing it with an inferior mapping system that lacks the detail, usability, and community engagement that made Fatmap so essential. While some alternative apps have attempted to fill the gap, none have yet matched the depth and precision that Fatmap provided, especially in smaller regions of the world such as New Zealand & Japan. It’s incredibly frustrating to see Strava take over such a well-loved tool, only to leave winter backcountry users without a proper replacement. If Strava genuinely cared about the community Fatmap served, they would either properly integrate its features or reinstate the original platform. Until then, this remains a major failure on Strava’s part.

Hi there. We fixed a couple bugs and made some performance improvements, so the app should now be almost as speedy as you. Have fun out there!
