NZ Topo Maps 4+

Useful app

Does most of what it claims on the box, but I can’t download the Topo50 series maps. Not sure if this is due to LINZ changing something or if I’m just not seeing it but either way it’s a source of frustration.

Edit: Thanks very much to the developer for the response, have re-rated. Maybe I’m in the minority but perhaps hints in the app would be a useful update.

Sorry about the frustration nzJDC. To download Topo50 maps you first need to zoom the map out until the huts disappear and you see a light grey overlay. The overlay shows the borders of the Topo50 map sheets. Tap on a map sheet and the sheet name and number will appear at the bottom of the screen with a download button on the right. Ensure you have a good internet connection, then tap the download button to download the Topo50 map for offline use. The download may take a couple of minutes. If the download finishes successfully the download progress screen will dismiss and you will notice that the download button will now be a delete button. Tap the delete button if wish to remove the Topo50 data from your device. If there was a problem during the download only part of the map sheet may be saved. In this case tap the resume button to retry the download.

Stopped working?

This app used to be great no problems - now for 3 months I haven’t been able to download the map sheets for use offline reliably at all. It gets half way though a download and then either says ‘download failed check your internet connection’ or ‘download failed couldn’t reach LINZ data’.
This is really frustrating as this is my favourite Topo map but has become unusable, spending hours attempting to download maps but failing? Annoying when I pay for it too!
Any help on how to make it work again would be welcomed - tried zooming out and selecting the map square instead of selecting from the maps page list - still does the same thing. Tried deleting and reloading the app - same thing but now I’ve lost all my maps. My internet connection is not the problem as it’s happened in multiple locations.

Frustrating

Potentially great app but even with fully downloaded 50 maps, as you zoom in, the map disappears. It was a potentially deadly bug on my trip this week!!

Edit to provide more detail as requested. I downloaded several Topo50 maps to use on my trip (the ones covering the top of the South Island). They worked fine when in reception. When I was on my trip and out of cellphone range, every time I zoomed in to see the 50 detail, it was like they weren’t there as the 50 detail disappeared and I only had the 250. I don’t know if this was caused by being out of reception, or if it was because I had turned my phone off or on, or what. 🤷‍♀️

Hi, thanks for your feedback and for providing these details. Sorry to hear that the app didn't perform well on your trip. I have retested the app and unfortunately can not find a fault that would result in this behaviour. If this occurs again, please let me know. Your feedback is appreciated. 
To test that maps have downloaded correctly before you leave reception, simply put your phone in flight mode and view the maps.
