Xcode offers the tools you need to develop, test, and distribute apps for Apple platforms, including predictive code completion, generative intelligence powered by the best coding models, advanced profiling and debugging tools, and simulators for Apple devices. It enables a unified workflow that spans from the earliest stages of app development to testing, debugging, optimization, and app distribution to testers and users. And with the Swift programming language, Xcode makes developing apps easy and fun.
Simulator enables rapid prototyping and testing of your app in a simulated environment when a real device isn't available. Instruments helps you profile and analyze your app, improve performance, and investigate system resource usage. And you can use Icon Composer to design stunning layered icons out of Liquid Glass, Reality Composer Pro to create spatial content, train custom machine learning models with Create ML, and identify potential accessibility issues with Accessibility Inspector.
To test or run applications on an Apple device, all you need is a free Apple Account. To submit your apps to the App Store, you must be a member of the Apple Developer Program. Some features may require internet access and may not be available in all regions or on all Apple devices.

Free-space requirements for install are ridiculous
mcackay
13GB free, and trying to install a 5.46GB application saying “need 3.6GB” . What the heck?(Even after i deleted the prior version of Xcode, so it wouldn’t need to move things out of the way / have two coples installed at same time / etc)Sort out the install requirements please, or at least indicate in the App Store size parameter, that you need X Gb to install.
Actually understable

As a former python coder, Apple's Swift UI is simply incredible, although I see people complain the app "Takes up to much space", quite an irrelevant arguement. The reason for it taking space is evident:1. Providing Virtual Machines such as IOS uses a considerably larger amount of space.2. The software isn't "Apple's Pushing Strategy", it contains a high amount of automated command lines you can add, this type of data cannot be compressed or unzipped, as that would cause instablity.Conversely, it annoys me greatly people impulsevly bomb review this app without any knowledge of why or how the files actually take up such a large amount of storage. Spoiler, IT IS BECAUSE THEY MADE A QUALITY APP!!
how much exact storage is needed? still a mystery
Be the change BF
36.7 GB storage ..still get the warning 'need more storage space'. How much can you keep moving, clearing or deleting data without knowing how much space you exactly need.At some point I suppose, many like me would've thought of buying new gadgets from Apple if you want to build and test on iOS and this could potentially be Apple's strategy of pushing people to continuously buy their new products, because of issues self created by them (space and/or performance issue during upgrades) and not solving them. I could be wrong, but as it has been ages and this problem still persists it makes me think that this could be true. Apple please prove me and others wrong and get this fixed for all the developers.
Abysmal experience

Gets literally worse and slower with every update. How we need multiple GBs of download is beyond me - moreso the fact that 'updating' the app can take up to hours (if it not gets stuck) on high end Macs as well. If you are part of the Dev team or someone who pass info to someone in charge: please, we are begging you, do something about the crashes, the unbelievable sluggishness of the whole UI, the missing autocomplete (and when it is working, it simply offers brain-dead suggestions) and the disappearing coloring. We pay a yearly subsciprtion fee and give you quite a big chunk of our app sales - Apple, we demand (and for that same reason, deserve) way more than this.
Xcode 26.5 includes Swift 6.3.2 and SDKs for iOS 26.5, iPadOS 26.5, tvOS 26.5, watchOS 26.5, visionOS 26.5, and macOS 26.5.
This update adds support for queuing messages in the coding assistant while a response is still generating, and lets agents ask clarifying questions for more accurate results. It also adds support for a new billing plan in StoreKit Testing, and includes bug fixes and improved stability.
