bookmarks

The iOS 16 update was pretty good overall, as well as its new layout for the reading view, but the difficulty i’ve encountered with this is the amount of bookmarks i didn’t mean to add because of the new feature to add a bookmark every time you double tap. I see how that may be a good idea, but ever since i updated, i tend to somehow accidentally double tap and end up with way too much bookmarks than i actually meant to have. I checked the settings and even googled it if there was a toggle to turn it off somehow but there isn’t. Please at least add that.

This does not spark joy.

Way to ruin a perfectly decent app. Would’ve preferred to have a simple interface with all MY books neatly displayed on a library every time I open the app, instead of whatever this mess of an interface is. I don’t need to see top sellers or recommendations every time I open the app, what’s worse is none of y’all even bothered to at least give an option for defaulting to the Library screen. And boy who ever decided to replace that page-turning effect to a freaking robotic powerpoint presentation transition have absolutely trash taste and should rethink their life choices. That floating X button is fugly and irritating, I appreciate the new themes but this new interface is just unnecessary. Bookmarking is now a two-step process, why? Make ugly changes all you want but at least give people the option to change things back, even the page-turn animation at the very least. Good job making a simple reading app bafflingly irritating and disappointing.

Aesthetics of A Bookshelf, Gone

I loved the older version of the app wherein I can admire my bookshelf, cover titles on display against a virtual, wooden shelf. Why would you take away such a wonderful feature? Now this looks impersonal, and to be honest, boring. I haven’t used the app for ages. And don’t let me start on the “Reading Now” section that was ALL TOO CONFUSING. Why was the More To Explore under this section, anyways? I think it should be under Search, instead of cluttering the books we’re currently reading. Sheesh. Everything is in disarray.

I hope you can revisit this app and add a little bit of flexibility wherein you can personalize your bookshelf, the tabs, maybe change the background or what. Or better yet, just give us back the old, wooden bookshelf.
