The Great Sneeze

Puzzle your way through classic paintings scrambled by a stupendous sneeze.

Ever see someone “ah-CHOO!” so hard, they jumbled the contents of an entire art gallery? It happens in The Great Sneeze, a light-hearted adventure inspired by the work of German painter Caspar David Friedrich. Help a trio of students race to rebuild the exhibit before it opens to the public – shooing away ghosts, zapping alien invaders and piecing together landscapes as Friedrich’s paintings come to life.

What we love: Following the wayward Wanderer. The subject of Friedrich’s Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog has escaped his sneeze-shattered canvas, and chasing clues to track him through the exhibit is a ton of fun (and educational, too!).

As you explore the gallery, you’ll find useful items – and fascinating facts about Friedrich’s work.

Quick tip: Use the flashlight to banish the ghosts haunting Abbey in the Oakwood. There’s no shortage of these sneaky spirits, but just keep melting them one at a time until the painting is restored to its original (but still creepy) state.

Meet the creator: Based in Hamburg, Germany, Monstrum is a small studio founded by Nikolai Reinke and Shelly Alon. The Great Sneeze was developed in collaboration with the Hamburger Kunsthalle museum, home of Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog – and also where Alon’s father used to give guided tours of the Friedrich exhibit.
