Description

Google Authenticator adds an extra layer of security to your online accounts by adding a second step of verification when you sign in. This means that in addition to your password, you'll also need to enter a code that is generated by the Google Authenticator app on your phone.

The verification code can be generated by the Google Authenticator app on your phone, even if you don't have a network or mobile connection.

• Sync your Authenticator codes to your Google Account and across your devices. This way, you can always access them even if you lose your phone.

• Set up your Authenticator accounts automatically with a QR code. This is quick and easy, and it helps to ensure that your codes are set up correctly.

• Support for multiple accounts. You can use the authenticator app to manage multiple accounts, so you don't have to switch between apps every time you need to sign in.

• Support for time-based and counter-based code generation. You can choose the type of code generation that best suits your needs.

• Transfer accounts between devices with a QR code. This is a convenient way to move your accounts to a new device.

To use Google Authenticator with Google, you need to enable 2-Step Verification on your Google Account. To get started, visit http://www.google.com/2step

Needs iCloud or Google backup

Good app but the method to migrate is still old school and has a lot of problems, for e.g, what if a phone is lost? Am I supposed to set up 40-50 new services on new device after fetching backup codes, etc? Most users are going to get locked out of their accounts and they’re going to abuse you.

My suggestion is to integrate either automatic iCloud backup so that the codes are restored in new devices automatically, or Google backup.

I want to migrate to either Authy or Microsoft Authenticator due to this problem. But I am going to stick around with Google for a month or two more and if this backup feature is not released, then I will abandon this app.

I lost access to most of my accounts...

I lost access to most of my accounts when i changed my phone to a new one just because this stupid authentication app rest itself. I thought that all mu accounts would backup automatically as they are connected to my google but unfortunately even the new update doesn't resolves the issue in case someone's phone is lost or out of order. I don't know 🤷🏻‍♂️ why a simple problem like this can't be solved with an automatic backup of accounts as soon as we enter them into the app. This make this authentication app based verification process totally obsolete. I always prefer the phone number as the foremost verification method.
